The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have done well with two successive victories in the first couple of games of IPL 2025. Their captain, Shreyas Iyer, was phenomenal with the bat, with two successive unbeaten half-centuries.

But during the last encounter against the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, once opener Priyansh Arya and Iyer struggled with the bat inside the powerplay, they couldn’t chase down the score, as the entire batting line-up, including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, failed.

They hope to bring their best batting and bowling performance against a depleted Chennai Super Kings, who have earned just one victory in their four group-stage clashes.

IPL 2025: PBKS Playing XI vs CSK- IPL 2025, Match 22

Openers- Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh

Priyansh Arya, after an impressive Delhi Premier League 2025, has started playing eleven of the Punjab Kings from the very first game and nailed the Gujarat pacers around the park to get an early advantage in the fixture.

But he hasn’t done well in the last two games and was undone by an expressive delivery from Jofra Archer on the very first ball of the chase. He couldn’t repeat his magic from the opening game and will be eager to make an impact against Chennai.

Prabhsimran Singh was decent in their second game against the Lucknow Super Giants but struggled with just 17 runs in 16 balls against the Royals. He hopes to do his best in the next PBKS encounter.

Middle order- Shreyas Iyer (c), Marcus Stoinis, Nehal Wadhera, Glenn Maxwell, Shashank Singh, Suyansh Shedge/Harpreet Brar

The biggest difference between the two sides in the PBKS vs CSK fixture will be the intent. Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab captain, despite losing a wicket on the very first ball, drove the very second ball for a boundary against Archer, who broke the batter’s stump on 10 runs in five balls.

Marcus Stoinis made just one run in seven balls. Maxwell tried hard but couldn’t match the pressure against the Royals and returned to the pavilion with 30 runs in 21 balls. Nehal Wadhera kept them in the chase for a long time with 62 runs in 41 balls at 151.22.

Towards the end, the required run rate was too high to touch for the Punjab side as they managed 155/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Suyash Shedge hasn’t worked for the franchise with both bat and ball in hand. That could push the management to bring Harpreet Brar for the fixture against Chennai.

Bowlers- Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, Yuzvendra Chahal

Whenever Arshdeep Singh picked up wickets with the new ball, PBKS enjoyed the luxury. But he could repeat his heroics from the last game against the Royals, and the pressure came on their spinners.

Yuzvendra Chahal hasn’t been going at a full flow with the ball as he went for 32 runs in three overs without any success. Stoinis, bowling his four overs, leaked 0/48.

Lockie Ferguson bowled with pace for 2/37 in four overs, but they hope for better planning and rhythm for the pacers, going into the PBKS vs CSK fixture at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
