The BCCI has planned to resume the IPL 2025 on May 18, if everything goes to plan. However, a lot will rely on the ever-changing geopolitical landscape. However, the competition is scheduled to resume quickly if the existing ceasefire is upheld and there is no mishap on the part of Pakistan. Naturally, approval from the Indian government is required.

This year's event has already seen fifty-seven matches. Halfway through the first innings of the 58th match between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in Dharamsala, the match was called off.

The players, coaches, and support staff took a bus to Jalandhar and then a train to Delhi because the Dharamsala airport was blocked.

There are still four playoff games and twelve league games left in the IPL 2025. Even if the tournament is postponed past the final day of May 25, the updated schedule might still be crowded with doubleheaders.

The IPL has a limited amount of time to act because the World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa begins on June 11 and is followed by India's five-Test series in England.

BCCI to review the situation and take a decision

Following the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on Saturday, May 10, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun planning to resume the IPL 2025. Officials from the BCCI and IPL will work to determine the optimal timetable to finish the competition.

Notably, because of the cross-border hostilities between India and Pakistan, 16 matches—including the knockout stages—remain unfinished.

According to a top BCCI official who spoke to RevSportz, "We will review the situation today before taking a decision."

He denied that, despite some reports in the British media, the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) had approached its Indian counterpart about hosting the remaining IPL matches in England.

BCCI informs teams

However, a franchise executive said that they had received word from the BCCI through backchannel conversations that the tentative resumption date may be May 17 or 18, most likely the 18th.

“Nothing official, but there’s some back-channel chat that they (BCCI) want to start as soon as possible,” the official added.

However, the BCCI instructed franchises to have their players and personnel ready to reassemble within a week. All ten teams have reportedly begun the process of calling their foreign players and coaches back to India. They might not, however, be able to bring in every international player for the final stretch.
