The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made a good start in the IPL 2025 campaign with a victory against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). But since then, it has been hard work for the 2016 champions, who faced four successive defeats to be at the bottom position of the points table.
Hyderabad, however, made a cracking comeback at home against the Punjab Kings in the 246-run chase. Their opening stand between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put up a 171-run partnership, where the Indian southpaw celebrated 141 runs off his blade.
Going into the upcoming clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI), the pressure will be on the SRH batters to keep the momentum going for the franchise.
IPL 2025: SRH Playing XI vs MI- Match 33
Openers- Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma
Travis Head is SRH’s leading run-getter of the season with 214 runs in six innings at an average of 35.66 and a strike rate of 186.08, having on two half-centuries at the best score of 67 against the Punjab Kings.
But because of the poor opening stands in this edition, Hyderabad did not get the same impact as in the previous season.

Abhishek Sharma continued his poor form at the top for the first five games. In the first five innings, the southpaw smacked 51 runs at an average of 10.20. But in a do-or-die clash against Punjab, it was important for both the left-handed batters to step up.
Abhishek nailed a 141-run knock, which was the third fastest of the league as an Indian batter and the highest individual score, surpassing KL Rahul. Hyderabad hopes to see the batter firing in the same mood during the upcoming fixture against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
Middle order- Ishan Kisan, Heinrich Klaasen (wk.), Nitish Reddy, Aniket Verma, Abhinav Manohar
Ishan Kishan came at number four during the last game and remained unbeaten on nine runs to carry the side over the winning margin. But after Abhishek’s firing knock, the pressure increases on the wicket-keeper batter. Since celebrating a century in the very first game, he has looked poor with the bat.
Heinrich Klaasen also collected an unbeaten 21 runs in 14 balls at a strike rate of 150, thanks to two boundaries and one six. That’s important for SRH in the lower order.
Aniket Verma is a new find for the franchise in the brand-new season. In five innings, the right-handed batter has scored 141 runs at an average of 28.20 and a strike rate of 183.12, thanks to the best score of 74 runs against Delhi Capitals in Vizag.
The more maturity he shows, it will benefit him as a player and the side. But the management will hope to get more contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has already become an international Test player.
Bowlers- Pat Cummins (c), Harshal Patel, Zeeshan Ansari, Mohammed Shami, Eshan Malinga (Impact Player)
Mohammed Shami went through a very poor game with the ball. Coming back from the long lay-off, he hasn’t looked the same bowler in the shortest format. The right-arm pacer went for the second expensive figure of the IPL (0/75) against the Punjab Kings.
The good thing for SRH was how Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel used their variations towards the backend of the innings to slow down the Punjab batters. Harshal did a decent job of ending with figures of 4/42 in four overs.
