The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) couldn’t produce a decent batting performance against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the last away fixture. With the fifth defeat in seven group-stage encounters this season, they are sitting in ninth position among ten sides with a net run rate of -1.217.

Hyderabad started well with a high-scoring victory against the Rajasthan Royals at home. But their batting didn’t click together for the next three weeks. Once it did against the Punjab Kings, they blew away the Shreyas Iyer-led side thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s fabulous knock of 141 runs.

SRH will meet the Mumbai franchise at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium for the return fixture on April 23, 2025. It’s another do-or-die contest for them, especially to be alive in the tournament.

Openers- Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head

Travis Head went through his very first poor IPL encounter for SRH since making a return to the league last year. From the very first ball to the last, he didn’t get the boundaries with ease. Some of the brilliant fielding performances and planned bowls kept the Australians calm.

In 29 deliveries, the southpaw managed just 28 runs at a strike rate of 96.55, shouldering on three boundaries. When he was dismissed in the 12th over, his body language painted the picture of a mentally tired person.

On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma batted well for his 40 runs in 28 balls. But he failed to convert it into a big score despite getting so many chances in the entire innings. Both need to step up for the SRH side’s return fixture and destroy Mumbai’s plan in the powerplay.

Middle order- Ishan Kishan/Atharva Taide, Nitish Reddy, Heinrich Klassen (wk), Aniket Verma

It’s a season of two halves for the wicket-keeper batter, Ishan Kishan. The southpaw started aggressively with an unbeaten 106 runs in the first game before adding just 32 runs in six innings. Even in the last game, he ended with just two runs.

SRH didn’t get the expected advantage of Nitish Reddy getting the national cap. The all-rounder hasn’t helped them at all in the middle order, returning with 19 runs against Mumbai. Heinrich Klassen, the wicket-keeper batter, tried hard but could collect only 37 runs in 28 balls.

Aniket Verma is a bright aspect for SRH, who remained unbeaten on 18 runs in eight balls and is producing some fabulous knocks in the season so far.

It’s important for the side to keep going with the same players to show confidence but also try to unlock a few new members of the squad. Atharva Taide could be the best person if they want to replace Ishan Kishan at number three.

Bowlers: Pat Cummins (c), Harshal Patel, Zeeshan Ansari, Eshan Malinga, Mohammed Shami, Rahul Chahar (Impact)

Pat Cummins bowled beautifully in the last game with figures of 3/26 in four overs at an economy rate of 6.50. He changed the pace of the balls quite brilliantly. Mohammed Shami went for 28 runs in three overs and has lost his charm since his return from injury.

SRH used Rahul Chahar for one over in the last game, but he is expected to be part of this clash against his old franchise. Harshal Patel and Eshan Malinga’s roles will also be vital for the side to go towards the top of the points table.

In the end, they hope to get a good batting track, just like the Punjab clash.
