Ishan Kishan is set to receive bad news as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is being discussed by the board officials and the selection committee. The central contracts for women's cricket players for the 2024–25 season were recently made public by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Ishan Kishan's situation is one of the main discussion points when the contracts for men's cricket players are scheduled to be released this week, according to the most recent news reports.

Due to their absence from domestic matches, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan forfeited their BCCI central contracts last year. Their elimination resulted from the board's dissatisfaction with their lack of participation in domestic cricket.

Shreyas Iyer to regain his BCCI central contract

While Kishan's future is still up in the air, Shreyas was able to retain his spot on the national cricket squad.

The Times of India reports that on March 29, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will travel to Guwahati to meet with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir to discuss the central contracts. Gambhir will participate in the talks on player contracts while he and his family are on holiday in France.

The article went on to say that despite being excluded last year, Shreyas Iyer is probably going to get his central contract back. However, Ishan Kishan's position on the next contract list remains up in the air.

“Shreyas is set to regain his contract, and it will be in a top category. However, discussions are still ongoing on whether in Ishan’s case," Times of India report stated.

Ishan Kishan to be snubbed from the BCCI central contracts

In light of the BCCI's contract eligibility requirements, Ishan Kishan's scenario is more complex. Male players must participate in at least three Test matches, eight ODIs, or ten T20Is in a calendar year to be eligible for a central contract.

It's concerning, though, that Kishan hasn't participated in any international cricket matches since late 2023.

Citing travel exhaustion, Kishan pulled out of an international tour in late 2023. Instead of playing domestic cricket for Jharkhand, the left-handed hitter then trained in Gujarat with Hardik and Krunal Pandya. The batsman-wicketkeeper was notably included in the ODI World Cup team, in which India lost the championship match.

SRH showed faith in Kishan

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) purchased Ishan Kishan for a substantial INR 11.25 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. However, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma are the team's favored openers, hence, he hasn't opened the batting for the team.

With an incredible, undefeated century in his first game for SRH against the Rajasthan Royals on March 23, Kishan gave his IPL 2025 campaign a spectacular start. At an incredible strike rate of 225.53, he amassed an undefeated 106 off just 47 deliveries, including 11 fours and six sixes.
