Ishant Sharma’s day in IPL 2025 went from poor to worse, as after being hammered by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batters in their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) recently, he was fined by the BCCI as well.

Initially, Ishant Sharma was let go by the Delhi Capitals, but the Gujarat Titans trusted the seasoned pacer and purchased him for INR 75 lakhs at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

In three of their first four games in the current IPL 2025, even the Gujarat Titans, captained by Shubman Gill, have given the Delhi pacer a chance. Ishant's difficulty with the ball, nevertheless, keeps becoming worse. He has conceded 97 runs and gone wicketless in his first three games.

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, he gave up 53 runs during his most costly performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

To move up to second place in the IPL 2025 points standings, the Gujarat Titans defeated SRH by seven wickets. The BCCI has now taken firm action against the lanky pacer, which has made the situation worse.

Ishant Sharma was disciplined by the BCCI for violating the IPL code of conduct after the SRH vs. GT game in Hyderabad. In addition to receiving one demerit point for his violation, the seasoned bowler was fined 25% of his match fee.

Ishant Sharma found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct

Ishant was found guilty of a Level 1 penalty under Article 2.2, which deals with the misuse of equipment or damage to property on the field, according to the IPL's official statement. The quick bowler did, however, accept the penalty that match referee Javagal Srinath had given him.

The IPL media release reads, “Ishant Sharma, bowler, Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25 percent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ishant Sharma was admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 and accepted the match referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Article 2.2 of BCCI’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a match.”

“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e., intentionally), recklessly, or negligently (in either case even if accidental) result in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offense may be committed, without limitation, when a player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” the rule reads.

Mohammad Siraj and Shubman Gill steer GT to their 3rd win of IPL 2025

Mohammed Siraj's outstanding bowling effort and captain Shubman Gill's valiant batting in Hyderabad helped the Gujarat Titans win a hat-trick of games in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Sunday. GT has already won the competition over MI and RCB.

In the IPL 2025 match on Sunday, GT defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets, thanks in large part to Gill's outstanding fifty. The pacer claimed four wickets for just seventeen runs.
