Jacob Bethell Ruled Out Due To Injury, Jos Buttler Confirms Ahead Of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

England National Cricket Team captain Jos Buttler provided a disheartening report on Jacob Bethell following his team's four-wicket loss against India National Cricket Team in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match ODI series on February 9 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
at the first ODI at Nagpur, Jacob Bethell scored 51 runs, took one wicket, and conceded 18 runs with his left-arm spin. England also lost by four wickets to India. However, after a few hours of play, the 21-year-old experienced pain in his upper left thigh, and a scan revealed a possible tear.
The extent of the young English sensation's injury is unknown, as the ECB has yet to make an official notification about his situation, but it is thought that the hamstring injury will keep him out of action for four to six weeks.

Even after the second ODI against India, Jos Buttler warned that Jacob Bethell might miss the next ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a hamstring injury sustained in Nagpur.
The England National Cricket Team skipper has also recognized that losing Bethell will be a significant setback to the team, as he has recently emerged as one of their most promising young talents.
Buttler sheds light
Jos Buttler said in Cuttack, “I'm pretty sure he's been ruled out of the Champions Trophy, to be honest. That's disappointing for him; obviously, he played nicely the other day and has been one of the really exciting players, so it's a shame that the injury is going to rule him out.”
Jacob Bethell has played nine One-Day Internationals for England, scoring 218 runs and collecting five wickets in eight innings. He also astonished everyone with his performance in his first Test series, scoring three half-centuries and averaging 52 against New Zealand. He has also scored 196 runs in nine Twenty20 International innings.
Tom Banton called up by England as a cover
With Jamie Smith still recovering from a calf injury, England had to rely on assistant coaches Marcus Trescothick and Paul Collingwood as substitute fielders in the second ODI against India on Sunday in Cuttack. However, Tom Banton has been called up to cover the third and final ODI.
Tom Banton is scheduled to travel to India on Monday (February 10) ahead of the last ODI in Ahmedabad on February 12, and he is expected to be put into England's 15-man team as a replacement for Bethell for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman recently dominated the ILT20 2025, amassing 493 runs in 11 games, including two centuries, to finish as the tournament's leading run-scorer. The right-handed batsman competed for MI Emirates in the ILT20.
