Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness is one of the biggest issues for the Indian team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak provided a huge update about the pacer.

Sitanshu Kotak remarked that the Indian squad is still unsure about the pace-bowling spearhead's condition and rehabilitation from a recent injury.

Bumrah has been unavailable since the Australia tour completion

Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia. He sustained a back injury in the first innings of the final Test against Australia in Sydney. The right-arm fast bowler was forced to miss the entire second innings, and India eventually lost the match and series.

Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India's initial 15-member roster for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which begins on February 19. However, his participation is still doubtful due to continued fitness issues. There has been no official update on his recuperation from a back ailment.

The 31-year-old bowler recently underwent scans at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, but no specific date for his return has been set. He was scheduled to play in the third ODI of the series against England but was pulled out, with Harshit Rana making his ODI debut in Nagpur.

In a pre-match press conference, Sitanshu Kotak was asked about Jasprit Bumrah's health. Kotak stated that he was unaware of Bumrah's scan results and that only the team's doctor or physio would know about it.

"Not aware about Bumrah's scans, so that will be obvious our doctor, or physio will know about that," Kotak said.

Bumrah's availability for the forthcoming ICC event is critical to India. He was named Player of the Series during India's Australian tour. Bumrah was named Men's Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year by the International Cricket Council. He was also named to the ICC Men's Test and One-Day International teams of the year.

India struggling with injuries off late

Mohammed Shami just returned to action and appeared in good shape, which is a good indication for Team India, as Kotak also stated that the pacer is "completely fit". Shami returned to international cricket in the last T20I series, following a 14-month injury hiatus.

India moved ahead with Shami and Harshit Rana as the two frontline pacers in the first two ODIs against England, while Arshdeep Singh, who was chosen from the Champions Trophy team, warmed the bench.
