Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene has given Jasprit Bumrah a huge fitness update ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He disclosed that the pacer remains at the NCA and that they expect him to join the team soon.

The Mumbai Indians are considering Jasprit Bumrah's fitness as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 draws near. Due to a back injury sustained during the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 match, Bumrah has not played since January.

Bumrah has been out of action since BGT

After experiencing back trouble, Jasprit Bumrah was told to take it easy. He was pulled out from cricket for several months after bowling just ten overs in the Sydney Test. As a result, he was unable to play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 or the ODIs against England.

Jasprit Bumrah wasn't fit for the 2025 Indian Premier League, despite expectations that he would be. According to a few reports, the pacer will return to action in the second half of the league after missing the first few games.

We will wait for feedback - Mahela Jayawardene on Jasprit Bumrah

Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of the Mumbai Indians, gave a fitness update on Jasprit Bumrah as the 2025 Indian Premier League draws near. He emphasized that the pacemaker is recuperating nicely and that they are awaiting word from the NCA's medical staff.

The squad will have significant difficulties if Bumrah is not available for the first few games, Mahela Jayawardene acknowledged, adding that they must find a player early in the season.

Jayawardene provides crucial updates

"Jasprit Bumrah is with the NCA (National Cricket Academy). He just started the progress. We will wait for feedback. Everything is going well so far. It is a day-to-day process. We hope he can join the team at the earliest.

Not having him is a challenge, he is one of the best bowlers in the world. We will have to find ways and it is about opportunities for someone else. We need to find an element early in the season and see what works," said Jayawardene.

Bumrah’s absence from MI will be a huge blow, but their roster is deep enough to cause problems for the opposition. It will be up to Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Reece Topley, and others to lead the squad to victory in his absence.
