Jasprit Bumrah, India's bowling spearhead, has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against England. Bumrah will need more time to recover from back spasms sustained during the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already removed Bumrah from the 16-man ODI team against England without providing an official update on his fitness. His absence has raised concerns regarding his participation in the next Champions Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah experienced back spasms during the Sydney Test against Australia in early January. He left the field immediately after experiencing pain and did not return. His absence damaged India, and they went on to lose the Test.

Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of England ODIs

When the roster for the ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy 2025 was revealed, India's top selector, Ajit Agarkar, said Bumrah would miss the first two ODIs but would be fit for the third.

However, the board remains dissatisfied with the pacer's fitness, ruling him out of the whole ODI series. While the board formally announced the inclusion of mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy in India's ODI squad, it made no mention of Bumrah.

The BCCI is yet to release an official update on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness status. It also raises worries about his availability for the Champions Trophy, when he will play a major role for India.

Jasprit Bumrah is in doubt for the ICC Champions Trophy

According to TOI, Bumrah has arrived at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and will spend a few days there in an attempt to be fit in time. He can only make a comeback once he has been approved by the physios at the facility.

Previously, Ajit Agarkar revealed the Indian lineup for the ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy 2025, including Bumrah's name. He did, however, note that the BCCI's medical team will test the pacer's health in early February.

Apart from him, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana are India's top pace alternatives, along with Hardik Pandya's all-round ability. Rana has not yet been named to the Champions Trophy roster, although he replaced Bumrah in the first two ODIs.

Jasprit Bumrah's absence is a significant loss for India, as he has been one of the team's most consistent performers over the previous year or so. The 31-year-old fast bowler has consistently been the finest in all formats and has established himself as a lethal bowler over time.
