Gujarat Titans (GT) have reportedly signed Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis for the rest of the IPL 2025 season as their England keeper-batter Jos Buttler has refused to come back for the resumption.
Before the tournament's suspension on May 9, Gujarat Titans led the IPL 2025 points standings. When the league begins on May 17, they will be looking to maintain their performance. During the pivotal playoff phase of the T20 event, the Shubman Gill-led team is probably going to be missing several important players.
The IPL 2025 was suspended on May 9 due to tensions between India and Pakistan at the border. The foreign players all soon left for their home countries. However, as the two warring sides reached an agreement to pause the firing, the BCCI soon announced the resumption of the IPL 2025 season on May 17.
Kusal Mendis Likely to Replace Jos Buttler for Gujarat Titans
For the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League season, Kusal Mendis is anticipated to play for the Gujarat Titans. Mendis was considered by the team to take Jos Buttler's place. Mendis is probably going to be in the team because he just got back from the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
"Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Mendis is likely to join the Gujarat Titans for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season, according to cricket sources. Mendis, who recently returned after featuring in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has reportedly been approached by the franchise following the unavailability of England star Jos Buttler. An official announcement is expected soon,” the Newswire report stated.

In the IPL 2025, Jos Buttler has been a standout player for the Gujarat Titans, scoring 500 runs in 11 games while batting at number three. After being included in England's ODI team for the home series against the West Indies starting on May 29, the star batsman is expected to miss the rest of the season owing to national duty.
On May 18, GT will play the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi to start their IPL 2025 campaign. Three more league games are on their calendar.
Their home field in Ahmedabad will host their next games against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 25 and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 22.
