After Ali Tareen, the owner of the Multan Sultans, criticized the PCB for not fulfilling its promises of a "bigger and better" PSL and called their promises "hollow", Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal blasted Tareen for his statement.
Despite Tareen's assertion that the PCB had not fulfilled its commitments, the Karachi Kings defended the PSL as a genuine "made-in-Pakistan" triumph.
PSL 10 is expected to start on Friday, April 11, and run through May 18. According to PSL CEO Salman Naseer, the next season will "elevate the spectacle further, promising bigger stars, higher stakes, and celebrations worthy of a decade of excellence."
The Pakistan Super League's tenth season (PSL 10) will take place from April 11 to May 18. Over 37 days, 34 games will be played. The four host cities of Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi will host the competition for the six competing teams. The final set of the event will take place on May 18 at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Multan Sultan’s Ali Tareen slams PCB for not making PSL a huge brand
A recent podcast by Ali Tareen challenged claims that the Pakistan Super League 10 was "bigger and better." Such statements feel hollow without any significant changes, he said. He emphasized that the competition has consistently included thrilling matches, such as the prior year's final game.
"How is PSL 10 bigger and better? Someone explain to me — when we say these hollow words that this is going to be the best PSL, what does that even mean? How will it be the best PSL? It's the same teams.
We’ve had nail-biting finishes every year — seven close matches annually; even last year’s final went to the last ball. So what’s different? It's the same four stadiums, the same stadium experience. Yes, the stadiums are better this year, but is that enough to make it the best and biggest PSL ever? No. I’m fed up with these empty claims," Ali Tareen said on the CricWick podcast.
Ali Tareen wanted to know what efforts were being made to improve the league and how the season would truly stand out. Tareen voiced concern that a powerful brand like the Pakistan Super League isn't being advanced through true innovation.
"I am tired of these promises from the PCB and management about making this the biggest season. What exactly are we doing differently to make it the best? Someone explain. They claim it will be bigger while repeating the same things as last year. How? I genuinely want to know. Is there a plan? Are we doing anything new to elevate it? If so, great. But it’s disappointing to see our successful brand being neglected,” Tareen added.
Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal hits back at Ali Tareen and states PSL 10 will be bigger and better
In response to Tareen's remarks, Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal urged him to abstain from disparaging the league because they both own franchises.
"Since the start of PSL, many doubted us, critics from India, and even some local tv channels. But what truly hurts is when one of our own, a team owner, chooses to publicly ridicule and disrespect this league despite its continuous growth. PSL is Pakistan’s pride a product which has made stars," Iqbal wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Karachi Kings' Salman Iqbal Calls 'Jeeto Pakistan' the Biggest Game Show in the Country
Karachi Kings' owner Salman Iqbal said that ARY Communications (Pvt) Limited (ARY) secured the league’s broadcast rights in Pakistan with a record-breaking bid—a 45% increase from previous deals. He pointed to this as clear evidence of the PSL’s continued rise.
"From day one, ARY stood by PSL, placing the highest bid to own Karachi Kings, building its image through our platforms, and broadcasting every draft live and uninterrupted. Later, A Sports stepped up and gave the highest ever bid for PSL TV rights, a testament to our belief in this league. And this Ramzan, ARY offered their highest-rated and biggest game show of Pakistan, which is watched by millions around the world daily during Ramzan, "Jeeto Pakistan" for unveiling of PSL trophy," Iqbal added.
"Salman Naseer and the PCB team are giving their all to uplift PSL. Instead of negativity and denunciation of the league, we as team owners must step up and back their efforts. PSL is more than cricket. It’s a MADE-in-PAKISTAN success story. Every stakeholder, including Ali Tareen, benefits from its growth. So let’s protect what we’ve built,” he stated.
Big international names like David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Daryl Mitchell—players not playing in the IPL or on international duty—have been drawn to the 2025 season, which will take place within the IPL window. The Karachi Kings will be coached by Warner.
