The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also has much to focus on on their plate, including the logistical challenges to resume IPL 2025 and the squad selection for the upcoming five-match Test series against England.

Their A side will be declared on May 13, with most of the young and upcoming stars going to play the first two red-ball games against the England Lions before taking on the senior side in the three-day practice game. They will also have to declare the new leader for the five-day format after Rohit Sharma’s retirement.

Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair to get chances in India’s squad for England

The Revsportz report has revealed that the selectors will carry Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair for the main squad of the national side for the upcoming series against England. Even Sarfaraz Khan is likely to be included in the red-ball squad.

“Sai Sudarshan-Karun Nair is likely to get a chance in the Main India squad for England. Sarfaraz Khan will also be included.” Rohit Juglan expressed on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Both players have been in form. Sudharsan is currently the second leading run-getter in the IPL 2025 with 509 runs in 11 innings at an average of 46.27 and a strike rate of 153.31, thanks to five half-centuries at the best score of 82 runs.

On the other hand, Karun Nair was the fourth-highest run-getter of the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 with 863 runs in 16 innings at an average of 53.93 and a strike rate of 49.59, thanks to four centuries and two half-centuries at the best score of 135 runs.

Nair was also in an impressive form, with 779 runs in nine games to top the tournament with an average of 389.50, to add to a record-breaking five centuries and a half-century in eight innings.

India faces an experienced challenge in Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair’s absence

With the retirement of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India will feel the lack of experience on the side. They will be perhaps under the wings of Shubman Gill, who is yet to crack the Test code. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are the two experienced members of the side. Rishabh Pant will also be there.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rahul could open the innings with Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal coming in a three. Gill can bat four, followed by Pant and Jadeja. They will also look to use Nitish Kumar Reddy on the side to extend their batting at least for the opening Test at Leeds in Headingley.

Sarfaraz Khan didn’t feature in a single game for the BGT 2024-25. He made 371 runs in 11 innings at an average of 37.10 and a strike rate of 74.94, shouldering three fifties and one century at the best score of 150 runs.

He could feature in the middle order for India in the red-ball side for the opening game.

India starts fourth WTC 2025-27 cycle against England

In the fourth WTC 2025-27 cycle, India will be touring England, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka, besides hosting the West Indies, South Africa, and Australia.

The opening game of the England series will be on June 20 at Leeds before the action moves to Edgbaston. They will move to Lord’s for the first week of July before stretching it to Old Trafford and the Kennington Oval in South London. The Blue Brigade has not won a Test series in that country since 2007.
