Karun Nair getting poor treatment by Delhi Capitals (DC) has irked former Karnataka player Dodda Ganesh, who pointed out that the batter was benched for the first four games of their five games so far in the ongoing IPL 2025.

At the IPL 2025 Mega Auction last year, Karun rejoined the Delhi Capitals for INR 50 lakh; however, Ganesh now wants him to switch teams.

Karun has been hammering runs for fun in the Domestic circuit

Ganesh emphasized how tough it must be for a player like Karun to stay out of the game even when he is playing at his best in domestic cricket.

The batter, who was born in Karnataka and currently plays for Vidarbha, had a fantastic 2024–2025 campaign. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he amassed 779 runs at an astounding average of 389.50.

Karun shines bright in his comeback game in the IPL

In the meantime, in the 29th match of the current IPL 2025, when the Delhi Capitals were chasing 206 runs against the Mumbai Indians, Karun finally earned his first IPL match after three years.

Nair, who batted at number three, put on a spectacular display, scoring 89 runs off 40 balls with 12 boundaries and five sixes, but it was insufficient to prevent DC from losing to MI by 12 runs in Delhi.

In seven years, it was Nair's first fifty in the Indian Premier League. No player, apart from Abhishek Porel (33) and Nair, could even face 15 balls, as MI successfully broke Delhi's winning streak in the ongoing IPL 2025 by bowling them out for 193 runs in 19 overs.

The right-handed batsman scored 863 runs in the Ranji Trophy, helping Vidarbha win. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he also made an impression by scoring 255 runs with a strike rate of more than 170.

Ganesh stated that no cricket player wants to be warming the bench when he is at his best, given his stats across all formats.

Since Nair is too young to wait for his opportunity, especially when his numbers demand his spot in the playing XI, the commentator proposed that he switch teams. Nair is one of just two Indians to have hit a Test triple-century.

“Wish Karun Nair was picked by some other franchise. Despite being in the best of form, he still can’t get a game. It’s really frustrating if you’re Karun Nair. Hope he gets an opportunity sooner rather than later #IPL2025,” Ganesh posted on X.
