Karun Nair's England Tour Selection Guaranteed By Former Cricketer

The former Indian middle-order batter, Manoj Tiwary, reckons that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors should carry Karun Nair to England for the upcoming five-match Test series.

Tiwary feels that the right-handed batter is going through a golden form currently, having smashed over 1700 runs in the domestic season and proving his worth in his comeback Indian Premier League (IPL) game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the Delhi Capitals.

Karun Nair keeps Delhi Capitals in the chase with an 89-run knock

Karun Nair came into the middle on the very second ball of the 206-run chase after they lost Jake Fraser-McGurk on the very first delivery. The right-handed batter drilled Trent Boult for a glorious cover drive before slashing Deepak Chahar at covers for the same result.

He nailed Jasprit Bumrah’s length delivery over deep backward square leg for a six before lofting it over the long-off region for the same result to celebrate his fastest fifty of the event in just 22 balls. That’s the third-most runs for a batter inside the powerplay for DC.

When Karn Sharma floated the full delivery, Karun Nair leaned across the stumps and smacked it over deep square leg for a powerful sweep to collect six runs. He found the gaps between the two fielders at the cow corner beautifully before losing his off-stump on 89 runs in 40 balls, thanks to 12 boundaries and five sixes.

The former Bengal captain, Manoj Tiwary, reckoned that Karun Nair faced Bumrah in the best possible way. He also voted for the Rajasthan-born to get selected for India’s upcoming five-match Test series in June after the completion of the league.

“The reason for Jasprit Bumrah to be expensive (in his bowling spell) is Karun Nair. Because once he comes into the attack, Nair just gave a reality check to the pacer that even he can go through a tough time being a human and can have an off day.” Tiwary expressed this during a recent interaction on Cricbuzz.

“It’s good to see Nair being in form and scoring runs. In my gut feeling, I think the selectors will carry him to England for the away five-match Test series. You should take him. He has that Midas golden touch and should go to England.” The veteran was informed.

Rohan Gavaskar praises Karun Nair for the perfect use of the opportunity

The former Indian player, Rohan Gavaskar, highlighted how Karun Nair converted his first chance into a huge score. He went a step ahead to question how Delhi could keep the batter outside the team.

“When opportunity knocks, invite opportunity for dinner. He has done that exactly. Today, he got the chance, and he used it perfectly. Manoj is saying for the England series, which is quite far away from now. I am asking how Delhi Capitals can drop him. Now, he should play the entire IPL. He got just on IPL and can’t be dropped now.” Rohan Gavaskar explained in the same discussion.

Despite being in a dominating position after 12 overs in the chase, Delhi fell short of the target by 12 runs. They attempted suicide on many occasions. Ashutosh Sharma could have easily stayed till the end to carry them over the line, but his wrong judgment found him short of the crease.

Delhi, facing their first defeat of the IPL 2025 in five games, stays in the second position among the ten franchises.
