Venkatesh Iyer’s future with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has been sealed. The IPL 2024 champions, KKR, were eliminated from the IPL 2025 after their match against RCB was rained out on May 17.
To remain in the competition, KKR had to win the game no matter what. However, KKR's season ended disappointingly, as the rain gods were not on their side. KKR would not be able to qualify for the playoffs, despite having one more IPL 2025 match to play.
KKR is presently in sixth place in the standings after 13 games with 5 wins and 6 losses. This season, two of their games have also been canceled.
KKR has had one of the most forgettable seasons
This year, the three-time winners haven't had many successes. They have had trouble staying consistent since the tournament began. Their best batsman, Venkatesh Iyer, is undoubtedly one of their worst IPL 2025 performers.
Iyer, who was once one of the best batters in the KKR lineup, failed to come to the party this season. Iyer was bought back using the RTM card in the auction for INR 23.75 crores. He was also named the vice-captain of the team, but KKR's costliest buy in the mega auction failed to justify his price tag.
KKR set to trade Venkatesh Iyer to another team
Although many anticipated that Venkatesh would be the middle-order batting stalwart for KKR, the Madhya Pradesh star has had trouble this season. He has only scored 142 runs at an average of 20 in 7 innings this season.
Of those 142 runs, 60 were scored in a single inning. According to reports, KKR plans to fire Venkatesh Iyer because he hasn't lived up to expectations. The current IPL champions are anticipated to move the batter to another side prior to the upcoming season, per a report published in a major Bengali news portal.

Chandrakant Pandit also set to be removed
According to reports, Chandrakant Pandit is also under criticism for insisting on paying a high price for Venkatesh during the huge auction.
Since his first IPL season in 2021, Venkatesh has been a member of KKR. Despite struggling in the current IPL 2025, he has been one of their key batsmen since his initial season. Iyer has participated in 62 games for KKR thus far, amassing 1468 runs with a century and 12 fifties.
