KL Rahul’s father-in-law and Bollywood star Suniel Shetty has stated that he had never seen the batter doing an animated celebration like he did with ‘this is my ground’ gesture after he led Delhi Capitals (DC) to a win in IPL 2025 in Bengaluru against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
The highlight of KL Rahul's campaign has been the Kantara celebration, more so than his better T20 cricket strategy. This success is shown in the current IPL 2025 season, where he is already approaching the 400-run milestone with three fifties.
Rahul celebrated vigorously in Bengaluru
His father-in-law, Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, even gave him an "immediate" call as a result of the act.
Rahul's 'this is my ground' celebration in the middle of the field following a game-winning 93 not out against his old team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, went viral on social media right away.
Speaking to Star Sports, Suniel said that after watching it live on television, he called Rahul to express his enjoyment.
"I loved it. Even when I see it now, I get goosebumps. Every cricketer should have a moment like that where he believes, 'I can do it, and I have done it'. You know, that was one of the first times I immediately called him up and said, 'That's the KL Rahul I want to see. I think that came after the World Cup and the Champions Trophy - he showed that he can finish, and believes in himself,” Shetty said.
Recently, KL Rahul and his wife Athiya became parents to a baby girl, making Suniel Shetty a grandfather.
“He must have been hurt”- Suniel Shetty about KL Rahul’s animated celebration
His son-in-law, cricketer KL Rahul, has received acclaim from actor Suniel Shetty for his success in the current IPL 2025 season. Rahul, who currently plays for the Delhi Capitals, has contributed significantly to the team's overall performance this season and has already struck three half-centuries.
Regarding Rahul's performance, Shetty told ANI that the bat speaks for Rahul and that he doesn't feel the need to give his own family any credit.
“Rahul’s bat is doing the talking. What more can I say? And why should I praise my own? Even when my films were successful, I never stood up to boast about their success. I simply moved on to the next project,” Shetty said.
Reacting to his on-ground celebrations, Suniel Shetty shared, “Yeh pehli baar dekha hai usko aise karte hue, you know. So somewhere down the line, he must have been hurt. He told the people. Aur jisko message milna hota hai, usko mil hi jaata hai.”
