Leaving the campaign-winning captain from the previous season of the tournament, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made a huge decision to release Shreyas Iyer. This divides the fans’ reaction. A few marked it as the right decision, while a few were not convinced by it.

Once the management bought Ajinkya Rahane and retained a few middle-order batters from the last season, the only way to put the Mumbai-born into the playing eleven was at the opening position. Vaibhav Rana is the only standout pacer of the side, thanks to 17 wickets in 12 innings at an average of 25.29. Ajinkya Rahane, the leader of the Kolkata Knight Riders, batted decently to pile up 390 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 166.52.

None of their foreign pacers could do well in the season, including both Anrich Nortje and Spencer Johnson. The former recovered from injury at the beginning of the campaign but featured in just two games. Johnson, the left-arm pacer, didn’t contribute with the ball either.

One of the cheat codes for the Kolkata Knight Riders last year was their opening partnership, which has failed to deliver this year. They remain the only side not to celebrate a fifty-run opening stand for the entire tournament.

The management will also need to find a replacement for their successful all-rounder, Andre Russell. They tried a few players in the past, but nothing worked out.
