Ishan Kishan was the center of attention during the recent IPL 2025 match between his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI). This match was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad.
In 20 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, SRH overcame the top-order collapse to score 143/8. Abhinav Manohar scored 43 off 37, while Heinrich Klaasen scored the most with 71 off 44. Chahar contributed a couple of scalps for MI, while Trent Boult took a four-fer.
With a seven-wicket victory, MI easily chased down the mediocre goal in 15.4 overs, continuing their winning run and propelling them to third place in the IPL 2025 points table. As MI closed with 146/3, Rohit Sharma struck a brilliant 70 off 46 to record his second consecutive fifty, and Suryakumar Yadav blasted an undefeated 40 off 19.
Ishan Kishan gifting his wicket away becomes talk of the town
On April 23, Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, won the toss and decided to bowl first. The choice was successful, as SRH had a top-order collapse. Travis Head faced just four balls in the second over before being removed for a duck.
Ishan Kishan tried to glance at a leg-side delivery from Deepak Chahar on the opening ball of the third over. But the left-handed batter was unable to make clean contact. Notably, Kishan left the field right away, even though the Mumbai Indians players did not attempt to stop him.
Chahar and Hardik Pandya were preoccupied with whether the ball would be declared wide, while wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton appeared uncertain. When Umpire Vinod Seshan saw Kishan leaving, he immediately changed his mind and raised his finger instead of signaling a wide.
Hardik commended Ishan's sportsmanship and offered him a pat on the back. UltraEdge replays, however, revealed no contact with the bat or any part of Kishan's body, prompting immediate criticism of the ruling. In the changing room, Kishan was observed placing the blame on himself.
