Few franchises have gone through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they were expected from the mega auction. Meanwhile, a few franchises have returned with below-par performances with the bat and ball from the bidding war.
However, if there is one franchise that has done better than their expectation after the auction, then it was the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). They made the headlines by making the most expensive buy in IPL history in the shape of buying Rishabh Pant, their captain, for a whooping price of INR 27 crore.
Due to their costliest buy-in, Lucknow’s entire planning for the mega auction fumbled. They couldn’t get many players in the Indian pace bowling department, which created incredible pressure in various phases due to a lack of experience.
Lucknow Super Giants end the season at the seventh position of the group-stage encounter, thanks to six victories in 14 games. They started the event with four wins in the first six fixtures before getting just two wins in the last eight encounters.

Lucknow Super Giants' positives in the IPL 2025
Lucknow didn’t enjoy many positives in the 2025 season of the league. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram provided the side with many good platforms for the opening partnership.
Marsh finished the 18th edition of the tournament as the fourth leading run-getter with 627 runs in 13 innings at an average of 48.23 and a strike rate of 163.70, thanks to six half-centuries and one century at the best score of 117 runs. On the other hand, Markram drilled 445 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 148.82, with the help of five fifties.
The growth of the franchise was parallel to Nicholas Pooran. When the southpaw was doing well, the franchise got the results in their favor.
Pooran ends the IPL 2025 as Lucknow’s second-highest run-getter. He clubbed 524 runs in 14 innings at an average of 43.66 and a strike rate of 196.25, shouldering five half-centuries at the best score of 87 runs. Ayush Badoni, on many occasions, displayed maturity in the middle order and ended with 329 runs at a strike rate of 148.19.
Lucknow Super Giants’ negatives in the IPL 2025
Injuries are a part and parcel of the game, and that demolished Lucknow Super Giants’ performance in the bowling department. Shardul Thakur got wickets, but his economy rate of over 11 never allowed the side to put consistent pressure on the team.
Meanwhile, Mayank Yadav and Akash Deep were out of the competition for a long time. Even after their arrival, they couldn’t make the same impact in the tournament as the previous season.

Lucknow Super Giants' biggest issue was Ravi Bishnoi. They retained India’s third premier spinner for a huge price but were forced to drop him from the playing eleven in the middle of the season. A young Digvesh Rathi bowled well with variations to fox the batters.
Lucknow Super Giants' IPL 2025 Squad Rating
Lucknow will need to plan better in various departments for the next season. It will be interesting to see if they leave out Pant for the mini-auction, which will release a huge cheque for them, but they are unlikely to do so, especially after the batter’s century against RCB.
Overall, their squad for this season of the IPL got a 6/10 rating based on their performances.
