The IPL managing committee has declared that there won't be any fireworks or cheerleaders during the 42nd IPL 2025 match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as a sincere remembrance of the victims of the terrible terror attack in Pahalgam.
On Wednesday, April 22, the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad will play each other for the second time this season in Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Pahalgam terrorist attack; 26 killed, several injured
The terrorist attack on unwary visitors in Pahalgam has been attributed to the Resistance Front, a front for the outlawed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) organization located in Pakistan.
On Tuesday, the terror incident in Pahalgam started around 2:30 p.m. An Intelligence Bureau official who was shot dead in front of his wife and a Navy officer who was married a week ago were among the 26 people killed. According to officials, the victims included two foreigners from Nepal and the United Arab Emirates as well as two locals.
Numerous terrorists arrived and started shooting in the Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist destination with undulating hills and lush orchards. The tourists were terrified and fled for safety when gunfire erupted. But the vast, open area was too big for them to hide in.
No cheerleaders, players to wear black armbands in MI vs SRH IPL 2025 match
In remembrance of the 26 people killed in the terrorist assault in Pahalgam, the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians players will wear black armbands during their IPL 2025 match on Wednesday, which will not have cheerleaders or pyrotechnics.
To show their respect for those impacted by the atrocity, which has received widespread condemnation, the teams will also observe a minute of silence.
"The players of two teams will wear black armbands and observe a minute's silence in memory of all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam. As a mark of respect, there would be no cheerleaders on the sidelines of the MI vs SRH game. No crackers will be burst,” the PTI report stated.
Both Mumbai and Hyderabad are recovering
During the first stage of the current IPL 2025, the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad were among the struggling teams. The current IPL 2025 has seen the five-time winners rediscover their magic, while SRH's poor performance in the competition is still going strong.
SRH has only won two of their seven tournament games thus far, whereas MI has won three straight. While MI wants to extend their winning streak in the game, Hyderabad would love to make a comeback this time with the home game.
