The former Indian middle-order batter has used Virat Kohli’s example to roast the former captain, MS Dhoni.
He felt that the Delhi-born had set an example for many experienced players to understand the best time to retire from the game, rather than stretching it too far.
Virat Kohli retired from the shortest format just after the end of India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign in 2024, along with Rohit Sharma.
The veteran left the format as the third leading run-getter with 4188 runs in 117 innings at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04, having on 38 half-centuries and one century at the best score of unbeaten 122 runs.
“Virat Kohli has set an example for a few players”- Manoj Tiwary
Tiwary reckoned that every player, in their career, would get the best time to go off rather than stretching it too far. It’s always an advantage to find the right time and reason to bid adieu to the game rather than keep playing for an uncertain amount of time.

“I think Virat Kohli has set an example that people start asking why, and not when (to retire from cricket). This is certainly happening, with many players in this aspect. This is the example he has set, and many players should start taking it.” The former Bengal captain expressed this during a recent interaction on Cricbuzz.
“It happens in every player’s career that you leave the game and walk away when you are at the highest stage, so that the fans of the game don’t end up asking why they didn’t retire despite having a great time! So, one can learn from him.” Tiwary addressed.
Despite being out of the shortest format for nearly one year, Virat Kohli has looked to be in the same form and rhythm, attacking the bowlers inside the powerplay.
Virat Kohli’s performance in IPL 2025
Virat Kohli is currently the second-leading run-getter in the IPL 2025. The right-handed batter has collected 392 runs in nine innings at an average of 65.33 and a strike rate of 144.11, scoring five half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 73 runs.
In the last game against the Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, he played a vital knock at the opening position for the franchise in two important partnerships with Phil Salt and Devdutt Paddikal in the inning.
On the other hand, on the slow surface of Chandigarh, he stayed till the end and carried the side over the winning margin. It was a slow inning, but Kohli described how important it was to stay at the crease for a set batter.
Meanwhile, Dhoni has been struggling with his form in the last few seasons. In 2023, when CSK won the title, he had the chance to go off with full celebration, but he decided to stay for a few more years. And his performances in the last few years have not been inspiring a lot down the batting order.
RCB and CSK’s contrasting IPL 2025 campaign
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru is currently enjoying their dominance this season with six wins in nine encounters at a net run-rate of +0.482. They are so close to getting into the playoffs on the side. Virat Kohli will try his best to end the season with their maiden title.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are out of the event with just two wins in nine fixtures at a net run-rate of -1.302. Things have not gone well for the franchise as they lost their regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, with injury before Dhoni shouldered the responsibility. But even the veteran failed to make a difference this year.
