Mark Chapman, a batsman for New Zealand, will also miss the last match after being sidelined for the second ODI against Pakistan because of a hamstring injury. Tim Seifert, who was selected to replace Mark Chapman, will be part of the team for Saturday's last match at Bay Oval.
After hitting a century in the first game of the series in Napier, Mark Chapman hurt his hamstring while fielding. In Hamilton, where New Zealand established an insurmountable 2-0 lead over Pakistan, the left-handed batsman was excluded from the second ODI. The goal for New Zealand will be to win the series.
Mark Chapman to miss the third and final ODI against Pakistan
On April 5, Mark Chapman was scheduled to return for the last One-Day International between Pakistan and New Zealand in Mount Maunganui. He won't be risked, though, because he failed a fitness test on Friday. For the series finale, which also signifies the end of New Zealand's home summer, the 30-year-old has not fully recovered.
Before his injury, Chapman scored a career-high 132 to help New Zealand win the opening ODI by 73 runs. Tim Seifert will remain with the team for the upcoming game in his place. If the squad chooses to alter the starting lineup from Hamilton's victory, Seifert might be a candidate for selection.
Seifert named replacement
The standout player for New Zealand in the most recent five-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan was Tim Seifert. At a scorching strike rate of 207.50, the right-handed batter scored 249 runs to finish as the top run scorer. Because of his reliable batting performances, Seifert was named Player of the Series.
Seifert hasn't played in an ODI for more than five years, which is noteworthy. The 30-year-old's most recent 50-over match was in Nelson in 2019 against Sri Lanka. For the Black Caps, he has only participated in three ODIs. With a best score of 22, Seifert has amassed 33 runs at an average of 16.5 in two innings.
New Zealand is eyeing a whitewash against Pakistan in ODIs
With a decisive 84-run victory at Hamilton's Seddon Park, New Zealand completed the ODI series against Pakistan. Mitchell Hay's undefeated 99 off 78 balls, which included seven fours and an equal number of sixes, saved the hosts from early difficulty at 132-5. In 50 overs, New Zealand scored a respectable 292-8.
Jacob Duffy quickly removed Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam, while Will O'Rourke removed Abdullah Shafique in the third over. Tayyab Tahir and Faheem Ashraf tried to steady things with a stand of 33 runs, but the damage was already done.
Even though Ashraf and Naseem Shah crushed their first ODI fifties, it wasn't enough. New Zealand achieved a comprehensive victory by outplaying Pakistan with both bat and ball.
