Matthew Breetzke and Shaheen Afridi had gotten into an ugly spat on the field during the tri-nation ODI series match between Pakistan and South Africa in Karachi on Wednesday. Now Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi has opened up about this altercation to reveal interesting facts.

The incident occurred in the 28th over of the first innings, when Shaheen purposefully got in the way of batter Matthew Breetzke, who was running for a single. Shaheen's actions produced inappropriate physical contact, resulting in a heated dispute.

In the aftermath of Shaheen's action, he was fined 25 percent of his match fee. He was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match."

He didn’t say anything: Shaheen Afridi on altercation with Matthew Breetzke

Shaheen Afridi broke his silence on his furious verbal incident with Matthew Breetzke during Pakistan's ODI tri-nation series match against South Africa on Wednesday.

The Pakistani speedster admitted that he taunted the South African batter in an attempt to disturb Breetzke and steal his wicket. He also stated that the intensity was limited to the pitch, as both players met and shook hands following the match.

"For the first time, Matthew didn't say anything. I kept teasing him to get a wicket. Whatever happened on the field stayed there. Matthew and I met, shook hands, and became good friends," Shaheen said during an interview as quoted from Geo News.

Aside from his angry interaction with Breetzke, Shaheen discussed Pakistan's recurring struggles in the death overs of an inning lately shown in the ongoing tri-nation series.

Shaheen accepts bowling faults

In the first game of the series against New Zealand, Shaheen and Naseem Shah were tasked with seeing off the death overs. Glenn Phillips went all guns blazing, hammering Pakistan's star players to score 71 runs in the final four overs.

It was a similar tale for Pakistan's pacers in their match against South Africa. Naseem, Mohammad Hasnain, and Khushdil Shah were tasked with finishing the final four overs. The trio combined to dish away 46 runs, propelling South Africa to an incredible 352/5.

"We admit that we haven't been performing well in the final overs," Shaheen remarked of Pakistan's bowling performance in the death overs.

Pakistan will clash with New Zealand in the final of the tri-series on Friday. February 14, 2025.
