Mayank Yadav, the ace Indian pacer, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2025, will not return for the resumption of the tournament. The LSG confirmed that Mayank had suffered a back injury and will not comeback, while naming a replacement for him.
Before the IPL 2025 big auction, the Lucknow Super Giants kept three players, including Mayank Yadav. Mayank played just two games in the IPL 2025, against the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), before the competition was halted due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
This was Mayank's first time playing competitive cricket since October 2024. He signed a unique fast bowler's deal with the BCCI last year because of his accuracy and quick pace, which pleased the national selectors.
Will O’Rourke named replacement of Mayank Yadav in LSG
Soon after making his international debut, he had a back ailment that prevented him from playing in the 2024–25 domestic season. At Bengaluru's BCCI Centre of Excellence, previously the National Cricket Academy, he was recuperating.
However, he stubbed his toe against his bed, which resulted in an infection, delaying his return. When he returned, he bowled significantly more slowly, attaining highs of 130 kph and only sporadically exceeding 140 kph.
Now LSG have named New Zealand pacer William O’Rourke as an injury replacement for Mayank Yadav. William O’Rourke will be his replacement at a reserve price of ₹3 crore.
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have roped in New Zealand pacer William O’Rourke as an injury replacement for Mayank Yadav. Yadav sustained a back injury and is ruled out for the remainder of the season. William O'Rourke will be his replacement at a reserve price of INR 3 crore," read the IPL statement.

Will O'Rourke is one of the most talented young athletes in New Zealand. The 23-year-old bowler has never before played in the IPL. His outstanding ball-handling performance during New Zealand's three-match Test series against India and two-match Test series against Sri Lanka last year attracted media notice.
He also made a major contribution to New Zealand's run to the Champions Trophy 2025 final in February and March of that year, under Mitchell Santner's leadership.
The Lucknow Super Giants, led by Rishabh Pant, are still competing in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The team from Lucknow now has 10 points after 11 games. Their next three opponents are the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (May 27), Gujarat Titans (May 22), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 19).
