MCA Sets Shocking Mandatory Rule For Shreyas Iyer And Suryakumar Yadav

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has made it mandatory for Indian players to take part in the upcoming T20 Mumbai League. The MCA has also decided to appoint Rohit Sarma, the national ODI and Test captain, as their ‘face of the league.’
Rohit went through an excellent time in the last nine months, claiming the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America and the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
MCA orders veterans to play the Mumbai T20 league
The Indian Express has revealed that all the current Indian players will need to be part of the T20 league if they don’t get picked for the upcoming five-match Test series in England.

Openers Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw, the middle order batters, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Suryakumar Yadav, and the pace all-rounder, Shardul Thakur, should play the Mumbai T20 league, as per the MCA rules and regulations have expressed. Meanwhile, all of these star players have shown their desire to be part of the event.
“All Mumbai’s Indian players have been informed that they have to play the T20 Mumbai League, which will begin after the IPL. It’s mandatory unless those who have India commitment or injury issues can skip.” The MCA official has informed in a statement.
Around 2800 local players have registered for the upcoming T20 league. An auction will also take place for the event in May, while the association is planning to start the tournament from May 26 to June 05. The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) will end the day before at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
MCA to pay INR 15 lakh each for Indian players
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is likely to pay around INR 15 lakh each to all the Indian players for appearing in the tournament, besides their auction money.
“Indian players will be paid 15 lakh separately by the association as a participation fee, besides earning separately from the auction fees. We are working on the base price and other details.” The source, as the Indian Express quoted, added.
Abhay Hadap, the MCA secretary, disclosed that the 2800 registered players for the third season of the T20 league will increase the tournament’s popularity.
“The response to Season 3 of the T20 Mumbai League has been phenomenal. The fact that over 2800 players have registered speaks volumes about both the popularity of the league and the undying cricket passion of Mumbaikars. We are thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation and remain committed to nurturing the next generation of cricket stars.” Abhay interacted.

The MCA had also included two more new teams. They have also called for bids last week and it will be a season of eight sides. In 2018, six sides featured in the tournament- North Mumbai Panthers, ARCS Andheri, Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, Namo Bandra Blasters, Eagle Thane Strikers, and Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs.
Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer are in top form during IPL 2025
Most of the Mumbai batters are in fabulous touch during the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. Suryakumar Yadav is the sixth leading run-getter with 239 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 149.37, while Shreyas Iyer is fourth on the list with 250 runs at 204.91.
Shardul Thakur is the fourth leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 11 scalps in seven innings at an economy rate of 10.96. They hope to continue the same performance in shoulder-to-shoulder support for the championship.
