Mitchell Starc, an Australian seamer, has reportedly spoken with the Delhi Capitals (DC) management about his decision not to play in the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). The Delhi Capitals, who are still vying for a postseason berth in the IPL, will suffer a serious setback ahead of the playoffs.
There has been a lot of speculation in recent days on whether Australian players will rejoin the rest of the league.
IPL was suspended midway
The team had placed a lot of faith in the pacer since he was a big-match performer. He is reportedly concerned by the recent developments in India, especially the drone strikes from over the Pakistani border.
In addition to the lengthy and stressful bus and train ride from Dharamsala to Delhi last week, he and fellow Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk were the most disturbed actors in the issue.
Mitchell Starc’s refusal to come back puts Delhi Capitals in trouble
Mitchell Starc is thought to have told the Delhi Capitals team on Thursday that he is unable to participate after putting them on edge for nearly three days. It is believed that he wrote the team an email.
Mitchell Starc, who was purchased by the DC team for Rs 11.75 crore, has so far played in all 11 of DC's games this season, taking 14 wickets at an average of 26. The squad has greatly benefited by his availability, particularly as they are just outside of making the playoffs. With 13 points from 11 games, the team is currently in fifth position.
DC now banks on Mustafizur Rahman for the remainder of the IPL 2025
Delhi may have been aware of Mitchell Starc's decision before his withdrawal from the tournament, since they had signed an alternative option for him two days prior to Starc's statement.
Jake Fraser-McGurk has been replaced by Mustafizur Rahman, a left-arm pacer. For the rest of the competition, Delhi has not yet revealed who will take Starc's seat.
The 29-year-old left-arm seamer is reportedly available despite some uncertainty surrounding his NOC. Since making his IPL debut in 2016, Mustafizur has participated in 54 games over seven seasons.
Franchise sources say other foreign players will be returning to India to complete their IPL engagements.
