Mohammad Amir, a former fast bowler for Pakistan, talked candidly about participating in the 2026 IPL. The left-arm fast bowler stated that his favorite Indian Premier League team is Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and he also said that Virat Kohli, the team's star batsman, should take home the prized title.
Mohammad Amir, whose wife Narjis is a UK citizen, is hoping to obtain a UK passport, which could make him eligible to play in the IPL. Following the horrific incidents in Mumbai in 2008, Pakistani cricket players have not played in the league. The 2008 IPL included players like Sohail Tanvir, Shahid Afridi, and Shoaib Akhtar.
Virat Kohli and RCB’s failure to win an IPL trophy
Despite playing in every IPL season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has never won a championship. The squad reached the finals three times—in 2009, 2011, and 2016. In the IPL 2022 season, Faf du Plessis guided the squad to the playoffs. RCB fell against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
Virat Kohli, who debuted for RCB in 2008, is the top run-scorer in IPL history. He led RCB as captain from 2013 to 2021. With 66 victories from 143 games and four playoff appearances under his direction, RCB finished second in 2016 after losing to SunRisers Hyderabad in the championship game.
Faf du Plessis took over as captain after Kohli resigned after the 2021 Indian Premier League, and he has since led the side to two playoff appearances. Before the 2025 IPL, middle-order batsman Rajat Patidar was named captain.
Virat Kohli deserves to win an IPL trophy with RCB: Mohammad Amir
In a recent interview with Samaa Sports, Mohammad Amir was asked if, if chosen for an IPL team, he would play with Virat Kohli in the Royal Challengers Bangalore. According to Mohammad Amir, RCB is his favorite team, and they should take home an IPL trophy.
"RCB is my favorite. Whenever you watch interviews, RCB is my favorite. I don't know why. First of all, Virat Kohli is there. And I feel that he always makes a good team, but he deserves to win a trophy," Mohammad Amir said.
RCB has been on a roll in IPL 2025
This time, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) away from home to record their sixth victory of the IPL 2025 season. They had just lost to PBKS at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium two days before, and their victory was retaliation.
So far this season, RCB has won five of its seven games, all of which have taken place away from home. RCB must win three of their next six games to guarantee a postseason berth. To ensure a postseason place, 16 points is sufficient.
