The former Indian middle-order batter, Mohammad Kaif, has torn apart the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their third successive defeat at the home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, during the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Bengaluru, with the loss, has dropped down to the fourth position in the points table in seven encounters at a net run rate of +0.446. Despite winning all four of their away fixtures, they haven’t found the mantra to get better in the familiar conditions.

Mohammad Kaif tears apart RCB batters for poor shot selections

Mohammad Kaif revealed that most of the Bengaluru batters were swinging the bat from the very first ball of the knock, besides using their feet. On a spongy surface, where the ball was turning sharply, and the pacers were asking tough questions with the pace and bounce.

“Bro, they reduced six overs from the innings; it was a game of around 80 balls. And whoever came to bat for RCB was blindly swinging the bat using their feet.” The former Indian batter revealed in a video he shared on his social media handle.

“It was a spongy surface where the ball was stopping a bit. Only proper cricketing shots could have saved you. Look at only two batters, Tim David and Nehal Wadhera. Both were watching the ball and didn’t look to slog at all.” Mohammad Kaif addressed.

He explained how Nehal Wadhera and Tim David, who celebrated a half-century in the first inning to keep RCB in the game, used proper cricketing shots to earn runs on the ground.

“The way Wadhera nailed Suyash Sharam straight down the ground for a six and flicked Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the same result was excellent. On a tough surface, this is how you need to bat, and RCB has attempted so many mistakes, not for once but thrice.” Mohammad Kaif elaborated.

Mohammad Kaif advises RCB to show smart batting

The veteran shed light on how the Bengaluru batters could have taken a little more time in the middle and played the shots rather than going for them from the very first ball.

Your batting has not clicked in three successive home games. Whoever came into the middle was looking to step out. It is (14 overs) a huge margin, but Bhuvi came to bat in nearly the eighth or ninth over of the inning. On a tough surface, their shot selection was so bad.” The Uttar Pradesh-born suggested.

“They have now lost three home games and will need to win something. On the other hand, Punjab’s batting was excellent, especially the knock of Wadhera.” Mohammad Kaif concluded.

It could be something to do with the track, as the RCB coach, Andy Flower, on air, revealed that they are bound to play on the surfaces that the curators have offered without questioning anything.

RCB crumbled for 95/9 in 20 overs

Bengaluru asked to bat first on a surface that was under the covers for nearly three hours and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Their captain, Rajat Patidar, was the second leading run-getter in the scorecard with 23 runs after David’s 50*.

But defending 95 runs in the second innings, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood’s combined figures of 5/40 in six overs kept them in the game before Wadhera carried Punjab Kings over the line with an undefeated knock of 33 runs in 19 balls.
