The former Pakistan pacer, Sikander Bakht, reckoned that the current white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan, should resign from leadership after a poor campaign in the recent Champions Trophy 2025, as they have been eliminated from the eight-team tournament in just a week.

The Green Brigade lost the home tri-series at home against New Zealand in the final before losing the opening game of the competition against the same side at the National Stadium in Karachi. Their defeat against India at the Dubai International Stadium and Bangladesh’s loss to the Blackcaps confirmed their elimination.

Sikandar Bakht asks the PCB to show courage in Mohammad Rizwan’s resignation

Pakistan’s former pacer, Sikandar Bakht, feels that the board should have a discussion with Rizwan on his communications skills, as he feels that the national players should get the central contract only after they win an ICC tournament.

“I think Rizwan should resign from captaincy. And even if he comes back mistakenly, I will request the cricket board to ask him to speak in Urdu because I can’t understand his English. I like how a person who can’t speak or even impress himself becomes a captain. We have seen his leadership in the field.” Sikandar Bakht expressed during a recent discussion on Geo News Urdu.

“Even during Babar’s tenure, I called it a bad choice and the same goes for Rizwan. You have to make changes. Their central contracts should be terminated. Until they confirm that they would win an ICC tournament, they should not get a central contract, and I mentioned the same even when they went to the USA.” The Karachi-born addressed.

The 67-year-old compared that with the corporate sector, where people get fired after they fail to complete a given task. He wants to go through the same process on the Pakistan side.

“These guys won’t get affected by this after earning 40 to 60 lac per year. I have no issues with the money, but at least you should perform. Even in the corporate sector, you have a task, and once you fail to do that, they fire you. The board doesn’t have the courage in them.” Bakht added.

Mohammad Amir criticizes Pakistan’s pacers for poor ICC event

Along with the batters, the bowlers have also struggled in the Champions Trophy. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah got the wickets in the powerplay with the new ball, but none of them were successful in the death overs.

“Yeah, I have already mentioned that these players have got five to six ICC tournaments, and this is a fair criticism. You can bring the stats to see in the last six events, who has performed against whom.” Mohammad Amir highlighted in the same show.

The veteran pacer cited the experience of getting dropped from the national side after the 2018 Asia Cup because of getting wickets with the white-ball under Mickey Arthur’s coaching.

“When Mickey Arthur was our coach in 2018, the Asia Cup took place in Dubai. I got the most wickets in the previous Test series, but because I didn’t get wickets with the white-ball, the selectors dropped me from the red-ball side. Arthur suggested to go back to the first-class cricket to gain confidence.” The former left-arm pacer of Pakistan explained.

Pakistan seeks a better show in a dead rubber against Bangladesh

Both sides will arrive in the last group-stage clashes with two consecutive defeats and will hope for at least one victory to end the unsuccessful campaign at the Rawalpindi Stadium in Islamabad.

It was quite surprising to see Pakistan’s performance, especially their three back-to-back ODI series victories in Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
