The Pakistani captain, Mohammad Rizwan, has made a massive statement about the selection process for their downfall in recent times. He reckons that it’s not unknown to the people what’s happening currently on their board, and those who have the authority are the main culprits.
Pakistan is going through a tough period. They failed to qualify for the super eight stage of last year’s T20 World Cup and went through the same issue in India during the ODI World Cup 2023, where they couldn’t qualify for the semifinal.
Pakistan’s downfall in recent white-ball cricket
The Men in Green ended their journey in the white-ball games in a brutal fashion, with three series victories away from home. They beat Australia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe on consecutive occasions.

But the year 2025 didn’t start as they had hoped. At home, they lost the tri-series final against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi. They couldn’t win a single contest in the home Champions Trophy with both India and the Blackcaps blowing them away.
Their third and final encounter of the eight-team tournament ended in a wash-out result against Bangladesh. After the end of the ICC event, they flew to New Zealand for a five-match T20I and three-match ODI bilateral series. But the fate didn’t change.
The Green Brigade was successful in winning just one T20I game of the five fixtures and lost the series by a 4-1 margin. For the ODI series, they had no success, losing the three games by a margin of 3-0.
Mohammed Rizwan criticizes the selection committee for Pakistan’s downfall
With the team constantly failing, Rizwan took a brutal dig at the selection committee. He expressed that they don’t have any authority in selection matters and that those who are in charge of the issue should give answers to the fans.
“Our media knows it way better than what’s going on behind the scenes. Everyone knows that I don’t have the authority for this sort of work. In the Pakistan Cricket, every single person has a different authority.” The wicket-keeper batter expressed this during a press conference on the eve of the PSL10.
“Even the selection committee has a different authority, while I have my authority. But whichever person has a specific authority, it’s needful for that person to answer, whether it’s me, or the head coach, or the selector.” He explained.
The veteran also claimed that whatever team they get, the aim is always to win the game for Pakistan. But they haven’t got the right balance on the side.
We are answerable to the chairman. The entire nation knows that if the selection committee gives a statement and I will tell the media that before. Whatever team they give, I just look to use them in the best way. Is there anything else? No? Thank you.” Rizwan concluded.
“Sab ko pata hai kya ho ra hai. Har koi os cheez k liye responsible hai jiski authority hai.” 🤯

Pakistan aims T20 World Cup 2026 title
After a tough time in last year’s World Cup, the Green Brigade hopes to do well in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. As proposed, all of the games for the side, including the mouth-watering fixture against India, will take place in Sri Lanka.

That means the side will be well-suited to the conditions. They need their spin all-rounders to step up with both the bat and ball in hand to win them the games in crunch situations. The Green Brigade will also need their veteran players, including Babar Azam, to take the upper hand in the tournament.
