Questions were raised on Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra stressed that there was no positive news on the fitness of either player as India prepped for the ICC event.

The Indian squad is considering Jasprit Bumrah's fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The premier fast bowler recently traveled to Bengaluru for scans and was ruled out of the ODI series against the England National Cricket Team.

Bumrah's future feared

Clarity on Jasprit Bumrah is expected soon, but nothing appears promising so far. On the other side, Mohammed Shami just returned to India after a long injury absence in the T20I series against England.

Mohammed Shami played only two games in the series and took three wickets, all of which came in the final match at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. The leading fast bowler did not appear to be at his best before his injury, which caused concerns.

Aakash Chopra on Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness issues

Arshdeep Singh is the third pacer in India's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Singh is inexperienced in ODIs, having played only 8 games in the format, and is not very trustworthy, despite being in good form.

While discussing the Indian pacers, Aakash Chopra stated that he hasn't received good news regarding Jasprit Bumrah and that India should have selected four fast bowlers for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

"I am not hearing great news about Bumrah's fitness. However, I don't believe in hearsay, and won't share what I heard either. Four fast bowlers should have 100 percent been there (in the Champions Trophy squad) because whatever we have seen of Mohammed Shami, he did take three wickets in the last match for sure and bowled decently, but he is far from ready," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Mohammed Siraj pipped for a last-minute inclusion

Aakash Chopra believes India will add to their roster for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He believes Mohammed Siraj will be included in the team.

"I feel a fast bowler will get added. In whose place he will be, we shall find out. I feel Siraj will go to the Champions Trophy,” he added.
