Mumbai Indians went through an exact opposite season to Delhi Capitals for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. They started badly in the first few games of the event before picking up pace and momentum with several fantastic all-round performances in the tournament.

The Hardik Pandya-led side’s turnaround this year happened just after the return of the premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit Sharma started to get back into the runs, while Suryakumar Yadav contributed consistency in the middle order of the competition.

Mumbai Indians picked up a few new ball pacers during the powerplay, with an aim to pick wickets. Trent Boult was successful in earning the scalps. Their issue was the right combination of the middle order. Because of slotting Will Jacks into the side, they tried a few different combinations, and that created pressure on various batters.

The five-time champions began the competition with a defeat against the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and earned just one defeat in the first five games. However, in the middle phase of the tournament, they earned six successive wins to qualify for the playoffs of the campaign.

Mumbai Indians' positives in the IPL 2025

The biggest positive for the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2025 is Suryakumar Yadav’s consistency. He finished the group stage as the third-leading run-getter. The right-handed batter smashed 640 runs in 14 innings at an average of 71.11 and a strike rate of 167.97, thanks to five half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 73 runs. Sky is yet to score less than 25 runs in an inning.

Rohit marked a strong return in the middle half of the season. The Nagpur-born smacked 329 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 148.19 at a strike rate of two fifties. Ryan Rickelton also provided them with a very good opening stand and clubbed 388 runs in IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 150.97.

Boult ends the IPL 2025 as the third leading wicket-taker with 19 scalps in 14 innings at an average of 22.25 and an economy rate of 8.51. Bumrah is fifth on the list with 17 wickets at an economy rate of just over six.

Mumbai Indians' negatives in the IPL 2025

Deepak Chahar couldn’t live up to the expectations of the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2025. The right-arm pacer bagged only 11 wickets in 14 innings at an average of 34.18 and an economy rate of just over nine, thanks to the bowling figure of 2/12 in an inning.

Hardik Pandya’s captaincy was not up to the mark this season. His usage of pacers, especially Bumrah, was not good. In the spin department, Mumbai was undone by an Indian bowler. Mitchell Santner did well, while Karn Sharma was good in patches.

The batting position of Will Jacks is an issue because they wanted to use him at number three, the entry point for Suryakumar, Tilak Verma, and even Hardik was pushed quite a lot.

Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2025 Squad Rating

Mumbai Indians, due to their performance in qualifying for the playoffs of the tournament, will get a rating of 8.5/10. The five-time champions have done pretty well in the middle half of the tournament, but they will look to start on a high note in the upcoming edition.
