The former Indian opener, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has criticized the umpire for Ishan Kishan’s silly and controversial dismissal against the Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

He was surprised to see the left-handed batter getting dismissed without the umpire raising his finger. It was the batter who decided to show honesty and left the middle after potentially getting an edge onto the bat into the leg side.

It was the first ball of the third over from Deepak Chahar. Sunrisers, put into bat first, had already lost their aggressive opening batter, Travis Head, early in the inning. The Mumbai bowler went with a tame-length delivery on the pads of Kishan, who took his bat in that corridor.

Ryan Rickelton, the wicketkeeper, grabbed the ball and nearly threw it back to the fielder. The umpire was about to stretch his hands to signal a wide while Chahar was going back to the bowling mark. But suddenly, the camera saw Hardik Pandya putting his finger on something.

It was on Ishan Kishan, who decided to rule himself out after getting an outside edge on the blade. He started to walk off the field before getting back to his position while the umpire asked the batter whether it was a genuine dismissal and raised his finger.

Hardik gave a pat on Ishan Kishan’s back for showing honesty regarding his dismissal. The scenes became crazy when the replays showed that the ball was nowhere near the gloves or bat of the batter, and it was a proper wide.

Kishan was furious when he saw the video from the dressing room. He started the tournament with a fine century against the Rajasthan Royals at the same venue before losing form with just 35 runs in the next seven innings. Meanwhile, he also got back to the BCCI central contract in the Grade C category.

The former Indian opener, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has shared the footage on his X handle and taken a dig at how the batter himself got into trouble. He slammed the umpire for these rare occasions where the batter ruled himself out without a single appeal from the fielding side.

“Buying trouble is as easy as pie, but the carrying charges run high. Have you ever seen an umpire rule someone out without an appeal?” Sidhu wrote on his X handle (formerly known as Twitter).

Ishan Kishan had a decent last year with 320 runs in 14 innings at an average of 22.85 and a strike rate of 148.84, scoring 69 runs. But the Sunrisers gave him a chance at the number three position to prove his skill in the shortest format after getting dropped from the national side.

Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a sixth IPL 2025 defeat

Sunrisers Hyderabad made the most bizarre start in the game against Mumbai. They lost Ishan Kishan in the third over and were soon reduced to 35/5 in the ninth over. Heinrich Klassen smashed 71 runs in 44 balls at a strike rate of 161.36, while Abhinav Manohar drilled 43 runs in 37 balls at a strike rate of 116.22.

Mumbai Indians made an aggressive start inside the power play. Rohit Sharma returned to form with 70 runs in 46 balls at a strike rate of 152.17, while Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 40 runs in 19 balls to shoulder them over the line for the seven-wicket victory.
