Nitin Menon and Javagal Srinath were snubbed as no Indian name was chosen for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match officials list that was revealed by the ICC. The competition will be officiated by a total of 12 officials and will run from February 19th to March 9th in Pakistan and UAE.
India's well-known officials, match referee and former India fast bowler Javagal Srinath and umpire Nitin Menon, will be absent from CT 2025, which will take place in Pakistan and Dubai from February 19 to March 9.
Why did Nitin Menon opt out?
According to a reputable source, Menon refused to fly to Pakistan for "personal reasons". Srinath, meanwhile, told TOI that he had asked the International Cricket Council for a "leave" during CT 2025 because he had been on the road for the previous four months.
"Menon has refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy citing 'personal reasons'. Obviously, he can’t be officiating in India’s matches in Dubai, as the tournament rules stipulate neutral umpires. Hence, he is missing from the Champions Trophy," the TOI source said.
Srinath, who is now officiating the white-ball series between England and India in India, informed this paper from Nagpur (the venue of the first match of the three-match ODI series), "Yes I had asked for leave as I had quite a few days away from home in the month of November, December and January."
12 umpires and 3 match referees named for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The CT 2025 will have six umpires from the previous edition. Richard Kettleborough, who was on-field umpire during the past edition's final, will be joined by Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Richard Illingworth, Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, all of whom officiated in 2017.
Along with the aforementioned umpires, Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Ahsan Raza, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson, who all presided at the World Cup in India, will also be part of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
David Boon will lead the panel of match referees, which will include Ranjan Madugalle and Andrew Pycroft, both members of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. While Madugalle will be back after hosting the 2013 final. Pycroft also featured in the 2017 tournament.
