The young Indian pace bowling all-rounder, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who enjoyed a fine time with the bat during the recent five-match Test series down under in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, was struggling with a recent injury that kept him out of contention for the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, however, has sent a massive relief to the Sunrisers Hyderabad before the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their opening contest of the season will be at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium against the Rajasthan Royals on March 23 in an afternoon fixture.

The Andhra Pradesh all-rounder came into the national side with the least number of experiences. But the way he dealt with the quality Australian pace attack of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Scott Boland in the entire summer made one stand out on their feet.

Whenever the blue brigade lost a few early wickets in the innings, he made sure that they would still get enough runs on the board to give the bowlers at least something to work with.

Nitish Kumar Reddy finished the series as the fourth-leading run-getter with 298 runs in nine innings at an average of 37.25 and a strike rate of 64.22, shouldering on one century at the best score of 114 runs.

At such a young age, he has already established himself on the national side with 90 runs in three T20I innings at an average of 45 and a strike rate of 180 against Bangladesh in the maiden series. But he picked up the injury during the home T20I series against England at the start of 2025 and went to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for recovery.

There were so many speculations over his fitness ahead of the IPL. But the reports have claimed that he has cleared the yo-yo test at the center with flying colors and will join the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the next few days.

Sunrisers Hyderabad banks on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s international exposure

In his first season of the Indian Premier League in 2023, Nitish Kumar Reddy featured in just two games and couldn’t bat or bowl across those two games. But he fired up in 2024 and drilled 303 runs in 11 innings at an average of 33.66 and a strike rate of 142.92, shouldering on two half-centuries at the best score of an unbeaten 76 runs.

Nitish Kumar Reddy will be a shining light for the franchise as he can now channel the experience for the new season. SRH had an excellent time in the last season as they finished as the runners-up after losing the final against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 22 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In their new squad, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klassen will be a force to offer attacking starts for the franchise. Head was the fourth leading run-getter of the last IPL with 567 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 191.55, thanks to four half-centuries and one century at the best score of 102.

SRH to open IPL 2025 on March 23

After hosting the Royals on March 23 in their opening game of the season, they will face the Lucknow Super Giants at home on March 27. The first away contest for the franchise will be against Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam on March 30.

The Rajiv Gandhi Stadium will also host the first qualifier on May 20 and the eliminator on May 21.
