A shocking and controversial report has stunned World Cricket after a former Pakistan captain was found to be linked to a scandal involving the suspended agent, Mughiz Ahmed Sheikh. The report is yet to reveal the name of the player, but mentions that the veteran holds a significant position in the national side.

It’s not the first time that a Pakistani player has been involved in match-fixing. In 2010, the former captain, Salman Butt, and the two pacers, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, attempted spot-fixing during the Lord’s Test against England. Amir returned to the national side after nearly six years.

The fresh report revealed that the ex-captain, found in the match fixing and corruption scandal, has convinced several players to sign contracts with Mughiz Ahmed Sheikh’s Agency, the International Cricketers Association (ICA), as he continues to have close ties with the company.

Report Claims Pakistan captain’s Corruption and match-fixing scandal

The scandal came to notice when the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) anti-corruption code found Sheikh guilty of multiple breaches and banned him for misconduct. Even an investigation revealed that Sheikh, who had registered as the players’ agent with the ECB, tried to bribe the British coach to secure spots for his favorite players on the side.

The England coach was quick to report the matter to the ECB, and that led to an inquiry. After investigation and an anti-corruption hearing, the board’s anti-corruption code found Sheikh guilty of four violations.

The tribunal is yet to declare the duration of the ban, and the ECB has also eliminated the registration of the agent. After the controversy, many well-known Pakistan players, including Abdullah Shafique, Mohammed Huraira, Irfan Niazi, and Usama Mir, decided to distance themselves from the ICA.

The former captain of the Green Brigade, Sarfaraz Ahmed, under whom the national side earned the Champions Trophy 2017, cut ties with the controversial agency along with the left-arm pacer, Wahab Riaz, after the ECB suspended Sheikh. They have now reportedly joined the Games Sports Management to make a fresh start with the organization.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is, however, still silent on the issue. But if the ECB imposes a ban on Sheikh, then all the board members of the International Cricket Council, including PCB, will have to accept the decision and honor it.

Reports have claimed that 20 out of the 25 centrally contracted players were connected with the ICA, including Aamer Jamal, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Abdullah Shafique, Arafat Minhas, Haseebullah, Jahandad Khan, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Hurraira, Irfan Niazi, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Sajid Khan, Shadab Khan, Sufiyan Maqeem, and Tayyab Tahir.

Even Imam Ul Haq, Mohammad Haris, Usman Mir, and Abdul Samad were planning to join the same agency.

Pakistan seeks comeback in ODI series vs New Zealand

The last few months have been terrible for Pakistan’s cricket. They lost the home tri-series against New Zealand before getting eliminated from the group stage of the Champions Trophy 2025 without a single victory in three encounters.

Under Salman Ali Agha’s captaincy, they lost the T20I series in New Zealand by a 4-1 margin and tasted another 73-run defeat in the first of the three ODIs in Napier. A defeat at Seddon Park in Hamilton will be curtains down for them in the 50-over format.

But in the presence of the veteran players, Pakistan hopes to deliver a sensational all-round show to turn the tables against the Kiwis.
