Pakistan’s former head coach, Tanveer Ahmed, has criticized the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, for giving the Indian side an unfair advantage in winning their third title in the 2025 season of the Champions Trophy against New Zealand.
Tanveer reckoned that the entire world governing body tried its best to make sure the Blue Brigade enjoyed the sweetest route to the trophy in the eight-team tournament, as the slow and low surfaces were the best one for the Blue Brigade’s tactic of five spinners.
Tanveer Ahmed slams Jay Shah for India’s unfair advantage
Pakistan’s ex-spinner reckoned that he was aware of the ICC chairman, Jay Shah, helping the Indian side in preparing the slow surfaces, which ultimately worked in their favor of lifting their third Champions Trophy in nine editions.

“I am feeling the same as I have been saying from the very first day. They (India) are taking all the advantage by playing games in Dubai. Jay Shah and ICC are the same. He Shah also tried his best to prepare those surfaces where their spinners can take the advantage.” Tanveer Ahmed expressed in a recent show.
The 46-year-old also felt that even though the Rohit Sharma-led side was a complete package of batting, bowling, and fielding, the only lack in the side was the pace bowling department, which didn’t need to work much because of the five spinners.
“If I had an opportunity to discuss with them, I would have suggested they dry the surface even more as it was. I would advise them to make the pitches harder for the opposing sides. You know, everyone knew it from the first day.” Pakistan’s former coach revealed.
“See, there is no doubt that the team is in great shape. They are strong in most departments and are batting spinners and fast bowlers. All are in great form. But somehow, we saw the weak area in the pace bowling department. However, who was covering the fast bowlers in the Dubai Stadium? It was their four spinners, while the other sides are going with two spinners.” Tanveer Ahmed explained.

India’s unbeaten run in Champions Trophy 2025
Under Rohit, India came into the ICC event with a clean sweep 3-0 series victory against England at home before they opened their account with a win against Bangladesh. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100-run knock was enough to blow away Pakistan out of the event.
Varun Chakravarthy’s five-wicket haul ensured their undefeated group-stage campaign, while Virat’s 84-run knock against Australia in the semifinal progressed them to the final, where the entire team performed collectively with the bat and ball to carry them over the line with four wickets in hand.
Pakistan displayed poor ODI performance
Pakistan’s preparation in the 50-over format this year was not up to the mark, as they lost the final of the home tri-series against the Kiwis. They lost the first game of the Champions Trophy against the same opponent at the National Stadium in Karachi, where Babar Azam’s 64 runs in 90 balls was criticized in their failure to chase 321 runs.

Pakistan's batting failed in the second fixture against India in Dubai before their last group-stage clash against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Stadium in Islamabad ended in a no result due to the persistent rain.
Their focus has now moved to the away T20I and ODI series against New Zealand, starting from March 16. They will start building their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
