Pakistan’s mystery spinner, Abrar Ahmed, has shared his experience of bowling to Virat Kohli during the game against the arch-rivals India in the recent clash of the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Green Brigade came into the contest after their defeat in the opening encounter against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi. Beating India, they could have held their breath, but the six-wicket defeat was the final nail in the coffin as they earned elimination from the group stage of the competition in less than a week.
Pakistan’s defeat vs India in defending 241 runs in the Champions Trophy 2025
In the opening game against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan failed to chase down 321 runs in the second innings, as Babar Azam received so much criticism for batting 64 runs in 90 deliveries at a strike rate of 71.

The Green Brigade got a decent opening stand against India in Dubai, with the opening stan,d but failed to convert the advantage. Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel celebrated the slowest century stand for the side since 2014. India never felt the heat at any stage in the middle overs as Rohit Sharma kept the aggressive fielding intact for the entire 30 overs in the middle period.
Khushil Shah tried but could only stretch them to 241 runs in the first innings. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100-run knock was enough to push the blue brigade over the line and help them get the qualification. Abrar Ahmed was the lone bowler of the Pakistan side to gain some respect in the department, as he ended with figures of 1/28 in 10 overs.
He dismissed Subman Gill with a delivery that pitched in the middle and leg stump region and spun to hit the top of the middle and off stump to send the opening batter back in the hut.
Abrar Ahmed calls Virat Kohli an inspiration on and off the field
After dissing Gill, many former players didn't take Abar’s celebration in a light mood. A few reckoned that it was wrong concerning the game’s situation, while a few claimed that the spinner always displays the same reaction after getting a wicket.
But Abrar Ahmed has bowed down in the appreciating words of Virat Kohli after the clash in Dubai. He called the Delhi-born his childhood hero and informed that he gains so much inspiration from the batter’s performance on and off the field.

“Bowling to my childhood hero Virat Kohli. Grateful for his appreciation—his greatness as a cricketer is only matched by his humility as a person. A true inspiration on and off the field!” Ahmed wrote in a post on his Instagram account.

Pakistan seeks improvement in future ICC events.
The last few ICC events haven’t gone as Pakistan planned. They finished as the runners-up of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia but were knocked out of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America, and this eight-team tournament.
The reports have claimed that the board could reappoint Saqlain Mushtaq in place of Aaqib Javed as the new head coach before their upcoming ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. A few fresh faces can also make their way into the side for the series, as the veterans can take rest before the PSL.
