Hasan Ali, the talented Pakistani bowler, has made a bold claim that once the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025) begins, people will stop watching the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) and shift to the Pakistani product.

The Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) and PSL 10 are scheduled to clash, which is predicted to significantly reduce the tournament's viewership.

Despite being one of the most well-known T20 competitions globally, the PSL nevertheless lags behind the IPL in terms of popularity and several other aspects. Due to scheduling conflicts, the PSL may suffer from the Indian Premier League, which is generally considered to be the greatest T20 league in the world.

Why are PSL and IPL clashing in 2025?

Historically, the PSL has taken place between February and March. The Champions Trophy, however, forced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to choose a new window this year. This year, the PCB held the main tournament in February and March.

The PSL has to contend with the SA20, ILT20, and BPL for players around that time, which is another reason the PCB decided against holding the competition in February or March.

Hasan Ali made a huge claim about PSL getting more viewers than IPL

Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali is certain that the tournament's viewership won't suffer, but only time will tell how the PSL this year plays out.

"The PSL is clashing with the IPL, but this was the only window where we could organise it. Viewership goes where there is performance and entertainment. So if we perform well, the viewership will shift from the IPL to the PSL," Hasan Ali told the reporters.

“It was a tough decision”- PSL CEO Salman Naseer on clash with IPL

Salman Naseer, the CEO of the PSL, recently explained why the tournament was held during the April–May window. He told Star Sports that the call was made for other reasons besides the Champions Trophy.

He said the main players of the PSL would be present since there aren't any other significant competitions during the Indian Premier League.

"It was a tough decision and one which was not taken lightly either. The challenge that we faced this year was that the Champions Trophy was scheduled in February and March, which has been the traditional window for the PSL. So, we had to look for another window."

"Now it is a challenge, generally speaking, looking for a window that is sizable during the FTP (Future Tours Program) that exists nowadays. The volume of cricket that is happening across the globe is tremendous.

Any clear window is difficult to find. And now the leagues are also sort of competing with each other during this period. So, we really had to come up with a strategy and solution to this problem that we had faced. One solution was, of course, to try and do it in the window during which the Indian Premier League takes place."

"The IPL itself is a fairly lengthy tournament. But no other cricket was taking place during that time, and Pakistani players were not participating in the IPL either, which meant that this was a period where the core of the PSL would very much be present," Naseer explained.

PSL 2025 is scheduled to begin on April 11, while the final is scheduled to take place on May 18. Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars will be facing each other in the first game of the tournament.
