Ramandeep Singh Eyes This New Role For KKR During IPL 2025

Not many fans and pundits of the game expected the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise to retain the young all-rounder, Ramandeep Singh, before the upcoming 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), especially after a successful campaign where they enjoyed great success.
The defending champions had an excellent time in 2024 with all-round performances from both the batting and bowling departments of the side. Under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, the Knight Riders went on to beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to claim their third title of the tournament.

The decision for the franchise before the mega auction speaks volumes of their faith in the players who have shown their abilities to score runs freely in the lower order and pick up wickets with a few overs if required.

During the previous edition of the tournament, Ramandeep Singh smashed 125 runs in nine innings at an average of 31.24 and a strike rate of nearly 201.61, thanks to the best score of 35. With the ball, in four innings across two seasons, the Punjab pacer has collected six wickets at an average of around 10.50, with an economy rate of 9.45.
He proved his worth as an aggressive batter in the middle order for becoming the defending champions. The performance put him under the eye of the Indian selectors, and the maiden opportunity eventually came during the four-match T20I series against South Africa at the end of 2024.
In 45 T20 innings, the right-handed batter has cracked 640 runs at an average of 24.61 and a strike rate of 172.50, shouldering on two half-centuries at the best score of 64. He has also enjoyed 22 wickets in 25 innings at an average of 17.27 and an economy rate of 8.26.
“I am extremely grateful to have made my debut, for India and have worked hard to reach this position in my career, and now, I am reaping the fruits of my hard work. It is a dream come true to get retained in a mega auction. Looking forward, I will attempt to give my 100% to the team once again.” Ramandeep Singh expressed during a recent interaction on Knight Live Adda about his breakthrough 2024 season of the IPL.
Ramandeep Singh promised to contribute to India as a bowler
The promising bowler made his debut for India in November 2024 and opened up on his journey and aspirations. During the recent 2024/25 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024/2, he scalped five wickets at an economy rate of around eight in seven games for Punjab. But he is eager to display his bowling and batting capabilities.
“The conversation from IPL 2024 was that coaching staff have the same expectations from my bowling as they had from my batting. A couple of impactful overs in the middle of the bowling innings will be very important for the team. So, I am working on the same. I want to win games as a bowler.” Ramandeep Singh addressed.
He hopes to be part of the playing eleven for KKR during their opening clash against the Royal Challenges Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens.

The home ground for the KKR is very close to Ramandeep Singh, and the passionate fans of the city run deep for the 27-year-old.

Eden Gardens will also host the final of the IPL 2025 on May 25.
