Rashid Latif, a former Pakistan cricketer, has made a daring assertion, claiming that Rashid Khan is greater than the legendary Wasim Akram. Latif praised Rashid's remarkable talents, claiming that the Afghan legspinner was even taller than Akram.

Rashid, Afghanistan's standout player, is a global cricket superstar. Rashid is undoubtedly the finest cricketer to have emerged from Afghanistan, and he deserves a lot of credit for putting his country on the cricket map.

Wasim Akram has played 104 Tests and 356 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan. The left-arm fast bowler took 414 wickets at an average of 23.62 in Tests and 502 wickets at 23.52 in One-Day Internationals. After his stint as a player, he took on several roles as coach and commentator as well.

Rashid Khan termed "greater than Wasim Akram" by Rashid Latif

Rashid Latif made a daring assertion about the Afghan star during a conversation on Geo News' "Hasna Mana Hai" show, suggesting that the legspinner helped Afghanistan acquire global prominence. He even went so far as to say Rashid Khan outperformed Pakistan's famed left-arm pacer Wasim Akram in greatness.

“Rashid (Khan) has brought Afghanistan on the map, he has helped them get recognition. He is greater than Wasim Akram. I am sorry to say but Rashid’s stature is bigger,” Rashid Latif said.

Given Wasim Akram's stature and achievements in cricket, this is a huge statement. Akram is still recognized as one of the best cricketers to emerge from Pakistan, having accomplished nearly everything in the sport.

Rashid Latif tells Rashid Khan to work on the Afghanistan Test team

During the same conversation, Rashid Latif recommended the Afghan legspinner to assist improve Test cricket in Afghanistan. He even proposed increasing the number of Test matches between Afghanistan and Pakistan in the future.

“I have only one piece of advice for Rashid Khan. ‘Improve your test team and play more Test matches against Pakistan,'” Latif added.

Afghanistan's stocks have risen in World Cricket

Afghanistan remains a new Test-playing nation. In 2018, they were granted Test status alongside Ireland. They have played 11 Tests thus far, winning four and losing six, with a winning percentage of 36.36.

They overcame Zimbabwe 1-0 in two Tests earlier this year. Rashid contributed significantly to Afghanistan's victory, scoring 4-94 and 7-66 over the course of two innings.
