Pakistan’s former captain, Rashid Latif, has indirectly attacked the two legends of the country, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, over their harsh criticism on the current side after their early exit in the Champions Trophy.

The Mohammad Rizwan-led side failed to win the final of the tri-series against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi before losing the opening encounter of the ICC event against the same side at the same venue. Their defeat against India in the do-or-die encounter was enough for them to get the exit from the competition.

Rashid Latif warns former players to stay away from Pakistan cricket

Rashid Latif has warned the past players of the country to stay away from the country. He stated that the veterans, after serving on the side for a long time, should now look to take a break.

“It took 17 years (for Pakistan to win another World Cup) because the 90s players did not spare Pakistan cricket. Keep 90s players away from management and the team as well, then, they will try to win. They have been serving Pakistan cricket for so long now. So, I think they should rest now.” The former wicket-keeper batter expressed during a recent interaction on Geo News.

The statement has taken the fans back to Rashid Latif’s interaction on YouTube Channel ‘Caught Behindwhere he brutally attacked Akram and Younis by calling them ‘Dubai ke Launde” (Boys from Dubai).

Both the former pacers have shifted their base to the United Arab Emirates to cover the Champions Trophy in a Live show. Both Akram and Younis are the top leading wicket takers for Pakistan across formats.

“Dubai boys have created a ruckus. They are happy praising each other. They fought throughout their career, which hurt Pakistan cricket, interesting people. Throw money in front of them; they will do anything.” Rashid Latif addressed.

Mohammad Hafeez criticizes Pakistan’s 90s players

Just like Rashid Latif, Pakistan’s former captain and all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez, reckoned that the 90s players didn’t win any ICC tournament to inspire the new generation.

“It’s right that winning ICC trophies always inspire a country for the future among the fans and generations. I am a huge fan of the players from the 90s, but when it comes to leaving some legacies, they left nothing for Pakistan. They didn’t win any ICC events, including 1996, 1996, and 2003. We could have won a final, but we failed terribly.” Hafeez joined Rashid Latif in blaming the former players.

He revealed that their T20 World Cup win in 2009 and the Champions Trophy victory in 2017 changed the route for Pakistan cricket for the future.

Pakistan’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy 2025

When Pakistan came into the tournament with three successive ODI series victories in Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, no one predicted their potential poor performance in 2025, but they lost the tri-series final.

Against New Zealand in the home ICC event, they failed to chase down 321 runs in Karachi, as Babar Azam’s 64 runs in 90 balls received so much criticism. Khusdil Shah and Salman Ali Agha’s half-centuries were not enough to collect a last-minute victory for the defending champions.

During their do-or-die encounter against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan again displayed a fragile batting performance to end on 241 in the first innings. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100-run knock was enough to carry India over the line in the contest.

Their last league stage clash couldn’t take place against Bangladesh due to the persistent rain at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
