Rashid Latif, former Pakistani captain, has warned Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) that until MS Dhoni is playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), they will not win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title.
One of the three teams who have participated in the IPL since its inaugural season but have not yet won the coveted championship is Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings are the other two teams.
Royal Challengers Bangalore still missing the IPL Trophy
But because of the stars that have played for the team over the years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have come under more fire than PBKS or DC for losing the title.
The Bengaluru-based squad has played with some of the best names in cricket, including Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Shane Watson, and others, but they haven't been able to lead them to their first IPL championship.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have played 3 IPL Finals
Despite qualifying for the final three times, Royal Challengers Bengaluru missed out on the outcome each time.
They lost to the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in 2009, the year they made it to the final for the first time. They lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2016 final after losing to Chennai Super Kings in the 2011 final.
Rashid Latif’s ‘CSK and MS Dhoni’ warning to Virat Kohli and RCB
Rashid Latif, the former captain of Pakistan, has issued a caution to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who are frantically aiming for their maiden IPL championship. The former cricket player stated that unless MS Dhoni plays for the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru should not even consider winning the IPL trophy.
It all started when Ahmed Shehzad, a former opener for Pakistan, offered the team a solution. He claimed that if his old Pakistani teammate Mohammad Amir plays for the Bengaluru-based squad, they may win the IPL.
"If Amir plays for RCB, they could win the IPL title," said Shehzad on GEO TV. However, Latif had a different take as he said: "Till MS Dhoni is there in CSK, don't even think Royal Challengers Bengaluru can touch the IPL trophy."
Rajat Patidar has been named the new RCB captain, and they will be hoping that a change in leadership would also improve their results. On March 22, RCB will play the reigning champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata to begin their IPL 2025 campaign.
