South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada was in the news lately as he was found guilty of breaching the ICC code of conduct and tested positive for the consumption of a banned drug. After a few games with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Kagiso Rabada returned home.

The fast bowler for the South Africa National Cricket Team made a statement after it was previously reported that he had returned home for personal reasons.

Rabada returned home to complete his one-month punishment after testing positive for recreational drug use. Despite missing most of the IPL 2025 matches, the top fast bowler was recently granted permission to play.

Kagiso Rabada tests positive for the use of Cocaine and not marijuana; banned for one month

After the MI Cape Town vs. Durban Super Giants game on January 21, Rabada failed a doping test after using the drug during the SA20. His penalty is comparable to what the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) imposes for using drugs for recreational purposes, such as cocaine, methamphetamine, diamorphine, or cannabis.

But according to Rapport's findings, Rabada tested positive for cocaine rather than marijuana. The fast bowler received a lot of criticism for his behavior as well, but he made sure to express regret to his supporters for breaking the code of conduct.

Due to the sanctions imposed by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS), Kagiso Rabada was required to serve a one-month ban.

According to SAIDS Code Article 10.2.4.1, he was prohibited from: “If the Athlete can establish that any ingestion or use occurred out-of-competition and was unrelated to sports performance, then the period of ineligibility shall be three (3) months. In addition, the period of ineligibility calculated may be reduced to one (1) month if the athlete or other person satisfactorily completes a Substance Abuse treatment program approved by SAIDS.”

Kagiso Rabada to be important for GT as IPL 2025 set to resume soon

Next week will see the start of the IPL 2025, which was halted because of tensions between India and Pakistan. One of the best teams in the competition, the Gujarat Titans, appears to be the favorite to make it to the playoffs.

Gujarat Titans are doing well even without Rabada

In the IPL 2025, Kagiso Rabada is anticipated to have a significant impact on the team. He has participated in two Gujarat Titans games thus far. With an economy of 10.38 and a strike rate of 24, the bowler has taken wickets at an average of 41.50.

He will play for the South Africa National Cricket Team against the Australia National Cricket Team in the ICC World Test Championship final following the IPL. As his team attempts to win their first WTC championship, he will be the key.
