Rishabh Pant’s disappointing IPL 2025 is about to come to an end as LSG have been knocked out of the tournament.

This happened after their loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and it seems LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has had enough of Pant’s form and leadership.

Despite being signed for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore, Pant has had a difficult IPL 2025.

Pant had a forgettable season

With a strike rate of 100 and an average of 12.27, the left-handed batter has only managed to score 135 runs in 12 games. In the most recent game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he only scored seven runs.

The IPL 2025 campaign for Rishabh Pant has been incredibly disappointing. Pant has found it difficult to meet the high standards that accompanied his high price tag.

To exacerbate the situation, his leadership has also been called into doubt due to several subpar field placements and bowling adjustments made during the season.

Rishabh Pant to be dumped by LSG before IPL 2026?

With two games remaining in the season, LSG's inability to guarantee a postseason berth has been mostly attributed to Pant's patchy play. There is now an expectation on him to improve and end the tournament strongly. How Pant does in the final two games will be intriguing to see.

Meanwhile, a report in RevSportz has shed some light on Pant’s future in the LSG franchise. Despite his subpar play this season, the Lucknow Super Giants are anticipated to keep Rishabh Pant for the 2026 campaign.

According to the article, the LSG management may decide to wait for another season, viewing this year as an isolated anomaly.

“While Rishabh Pant has had a poor season, sources say that LSG will want to continue with him for one more season in 2026 at least. They will look at the current season as a one-off aberration."

"Although stakes are higher than ever for Rishabh Pant, who will have to prove his mettle in the upcoming five-match Test series in England,” the RevSportz report stated.

Wicketkeepers Ishan Kishan and Dhruv Jurel await opportunities, adding to the challenge Pant must overcome in the coming weeks.

LSG to play their last IPL 2025 match vs the Gujarat Titans

On May 22, the Lucknow Super Giants will take on the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow will host the team's season finale on May 27 versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

As captain of the IPL, Pant has a 52.72 win % and 26 defeats. His overall IPL leadership record has been patchy, even though he led the Delhi Capitals to the playoffs in 2021.
