Under Riyan Parag’s captaincy, Rajasthan Royals came into their third encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with two successive defeats against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But they finally got on the board with the victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
Despite the close victory by six runs, Riyan Parag has dealt with a major blow. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has punished the Assam-born for a slow over-rate during the encounter against the five-time champions.

Parag has been slapped with a heavy fine of INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the 11th encounter of the IPL 2025. Before the start of the second over in the second innings, the umpires also reminded the RR captain of taking too much time between the overs.

“Mr. Riyan Parag, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 11 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati on 30th March 2025.” The Indian Premier League (IPL) issued a media statement.
“As this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses, Parag was fined INR 12 lakhs.” It was added.
The number four batter for the Royals joins Hardik Pandya to be the second leader to get fined for such an offense. Pandya received a fine for the same breach after their 36-run defeat against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
In the new rule for the season, the BCCI decided that the captains would not face any bans for repeated offenses of slow over-rates in the IPL.
Riyan Parag struggles against CSK
Nitish Rana’s fabulous batting of 81 runs in 36 balls offered the inaugural champions a chance to get ahead in the fixture against Chennai. They were 124/3 in 11.3 overs when Ravichandran Ashwin foxed the southpaw with a wide delivery.
Riyan Parag struggled to provide them with the same aggression in the middle order. He ended with 37 runs in 28 balls, shouldering on two boundaries and as many sixes. The right-handed batter reverse-swept Noor Ahmed for a four but struggled badly against Matheesha Pathirana in the death overs.
Rajasthan, at one point, was looking to get 250 runs on the board but ended with just 182/9 in their 20 overs.
Rajasthan holds its nerve for a six-run victory vs CSK
Jofra Archer, after two poor games in the season, started with a maiden wicket-over as they gave away just five runs in the first three overs of the innings. When Shivam Dube nailed Wanindu Hasaranga for two big shots, Riyan Parag grabbed a fine catch to send the all-rounder back into the hut.

It was a game-changing catch as the captain looked pumped up. CSK’s poor middle order couldn’t do much with the stick later on as they fell short of the target by six runs. MS Dhoni nailed 16 runs in 11 balls, but that was not enough to save them from a second successive defeat.
Rajasthan Royals are at the penultimate position in the points table among the ten franchises. They will make a trip to Chandigarh to face Punjab Kings on April 05 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
