As India’s captain, Rohit Sharma has led the blue brigade to their third ICC Champions Trophy, beating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, many fans have started to speculate about his plan for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
The Nagpur-born reckons that he is willing to keep all the options open for his cricketing career in the future and added that he can’t commit to being part of the event in the future. He also led the side to the previous ICC event in the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).

Rohit didn’t enjoy the last few months of his career with just 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.20, with the best score of 10 during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 down under.

But the Mumbai batter met his purple patch during the home three-match ODI series against England when he drilled a fine century at the Brabourne Stadium in Cuttack as the selectors felt a sigh of relief for the opening batter’s performance in the side.
When Rohit Sharma contributed 648 runs during the 2019 ODI World Cup with five centuries and a half-century six years back, he would have hoped to lift the ODI World Cup, but he failed in that mission.
His ultimate prize as Indian captain was to achieve the title but he faced another heartbreaking lose in his career when Australia defeated the Indian side in the final to end the 10-match dominating streak.
The 37-year-old was inconsistent for most part of the competition as he couldn’t go beyond the powerplay in the tournament and ended with 180 runs in five innings at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 100, thanks to the best score of 76, that came in the final against the Kiwis at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Rohit Sharma reveals plan for 2027 ODI World Cup
When the next ICC ODI tournament begins in October 2027, Rohit will be 40, and that’s the period when a batter starts to lose his reflexes and reaction. At 37, with two trophies under his belt, he has all the right to decide his future and whether he wants to be part of another World Cup both for his team and himself.
“It is very hard to say that right now. But I am keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I am playing. Right now, I am playing really, really well, and I am enjoying everything I'm doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice.” Rohit Sharma expressed during an interaction with the ICC.
“I cannot say 2027 because it is too far, but I am keeping all my options open.” He concluded.
At the press conference after the final, Rohit Sharma confirmed that he would still want to be part of the ODI side as he is enjoying the format and the company of his teammates.
