BCCI told Rohit Sharma that he wouldn’t be picked for the England tour
A report in Dainik Jagran stated that the BCCI selection committee was not ready to go ahead with Rohit in red-ball cricket, and the veteran decided to bid adieu. But it was stunning when Kohli called time on his career in Test format.
The BCCI's top officials told Rohit that he was no longer required for Test cricket. Later, it came to light that Kohli had informed the board of his intention to retire from Test cricket; however, given the impending England tour, the board requested that he reconsider.
Following a lackluster performance against Australia and New Zealand, Rohit came close to retiring from the longest format.

Shubman Gill next in line to become India's Test captain
Starting with India's Test tour of England, a five-Test series that begins on June 20 at Headingley, Shubman Gill has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Rohit Sharma as the full-time Test captain.
Since it became clear that Jasprit Bumrah, who led the team in the two Tests Rohit missed and served as vice-captain of the Test team during India's Test tour of Australia, would probably miss a few Tests in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) cycle due to workload management, Gill's rise is thought to have become inevitable.
With that series kicking off the next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for India, it is understood that the selectors want a captain with a long-term view in mind, making Gill, 25, the preferred option.
In mid-2024, Gill was selected captain of a team that was missing several first-choice players after India's victory in the previous T20 World Cup. He led the team in five T20Is, but he has never led in Test matches or ODIs.
Over the past few months, there have been rumors that Gill was being prepared for the top position, and his performance as the Gujarat Titans' (GT) captain and batter in the current IPL season has been outstanding.
