Rohit Sharma was body-shamed by a Congresswoman politician by the name of Dr. Shama Mohamed in a controversial move. Rohit Sharma, who is leading India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, was called fat and unimpressive by the Congress spokesperson.
While the Congress politician deleted her post on X quickly, the BJP came forward with a stunning reply to defend the Indian captain. Under Rohit’s guidance, India has won all three matches of the group stage and topped their group. They will now face Australia in the semi-finals.
Congress-BJP fight over derogatory comments
Dr. Shama Mohamed, a Congress spokeswoman, referred to Rohit Sharma as "fat for a sportsman" on social media. She even referred to Rohit as India's "most unimpressive captain" ever.
“Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had!" Shama Mohamed posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Her message got a lot of attention on social media, but she removed it after receiving harsh criticism. In a swift response, Indian cricket supporters stood up for their leader. Additionally, the users suggested that Shama focus solely on politics and avoid cricket.
BJP defends Rohit Sharma with a stunning reply to Congress
In addition to users, the BJP, the opposite party, responded to this message by reaffirming their support for the Indian captain. Shehzad Poonawalla, a BJP spokeswoman, criticized the Congress for showing disdain for Rohit Sharma and the Indian cricket team.
"Those who have lost 90 elections under the captaincy of Rahul Gandhi are calling the captaincy of Rohit Sharma unimpressive! I guess 6 ducks in Delhi and 90 election losses is impressive but winning the T20 World Cup isn’t! Rohit has a brilliant track record as captain by the way! While opposing India, its institutions, and its armed forces – while repeatedly saying they are against the Indian state – Congress has now turned against the Indian team as well," Poonawalla replied to Congress.

Poonawalla also highlighted Rohit's accomplishments as a cricket player and skipper and criticized Congress for body-shaming him. He attacked Congress for being against the nation, its institutions, and now the cricket captain.
“Take care of your own ducks and your own captain. There isn’t even a situation to judge what is impressive or unimpressive there. And yet, the person under whom we have won 100 out of 140 matches, and under whose captaincy we won the T20 World Cup, is being called unimpressive.
This reflects Congress’s core mindset. They oppose India, its institutions, and any success or achievement of the country. That’s why, when India defeated Pakistan and New Zealand, the Congress party was furious and started spewing venom against the nation," he added.
Shama Mohamed defends her comments on Rohit Sharma
After facing backlash, Shama Mohamed defended her comment by questioning some of the decisions of Rohit Sharma, which cost the team.
“Didn’t he move KL Rahul to bat at number 3 at the MCG Test & put himself at number 1 which backfired totally! Wasn’t that a selfish move? Because of that, Shubman Gill was out of the XI. Didn’t we lose the last World Cup which took place in Ahmedabad? I have compared him to our previous captains," she questioned.

India has had great success under Rohit, particularly in white-ball cricket. In addition to leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup championship, he was instrumental in the triumph as the tournament's second-highest run scorer.
In addition, he has an unblemished record as India's captain. In 140 international matches thus far, Rohit has captained India in every format. With an outstanding win percentage of 72.14, the Men in Blue won 101 games.
